"Hands on the Hybrid" Season 2, Episode 11

Tonight's episode is about causes. Helping cancer research, and being environmentally friendly, but they really don't weave either of these into the storyline. They both come across to me as just props. We were sort of throw head first into this fund-raising event for cancer research, but the stage really was not set. Why would the Tragers want to attend this event? They didn't seem to want to go to events like this last year. Only Josh and Nicole know about Andy's cancer, so how did they convince Lori, Kyle and Declan to participate? We knew that Josh wanted to enter and win the car, but what caused Kyle and Jessi to enter? It was a bit convenient that both Kyle and Jessi ended up being drawn for a chance to win the car. I guess it was a way to set the stage so that we could focus on Kyle's interaction with Jessi, in order to figure her out. The other main plotlines tonight were Josh's interaction with Andy and how they are growing closer; Lori's not trusting Jessi, and wants to find dirt on her. What is written on the back of the picture? Kyle says to himself, "The light will show you the way," but when I checked a translation website I got a könnyu akarat mutat ön a út, which does not even look close. Is the writing in Hungarian? If so, how does Kyle know Hungarian? While holding on to the car, Kyle attempts to understand Jessi by talking to her and just being friendly. At some point, Kyle touches Jessi's shoulder and ends up reading her thoughts. This freaks Jessi out, and they get distant again. Eventually Jessi comes back around, and asks Kyle for his help. He ends up using relaxation techniques to help Jessi release her supressed memories. But in the end they short out the lights and an explosion separates them, which I guess was an explosion of static energy. Kyle struggles to figure out how to explain to Jessi where she is from, since her memories confirmed to Kyle that she is like him and is from Zzyzx. I am starting to get the feeling that whatever Madacorp did to surpress Jessi's memories resulted in her becoming schizophrenic, and not realizing some of the things she is doing, like threatening Paige. Declan's line, "Wickedly hot mentally scrambled" is the perfect description of Jessi. I did find it interesting that enough people had dropped out that Kyle and Jessi could walk to the front of the car, yet a scene or two later, it was supposedly the four-hour mark and there were at least a dozen people still holding the car. That was a nice continuity goof. What purpose did the phone call from Foss have? I don't see how it furthered the storyline. It was also pretty apparent that when they moved the clinical trials of CIR up, that Foss was going to be the test subject. I expect that either Foss will not survive the experiment, or if he does, his brain will be thoroughly scrambled. Josh had to buy his way into the contest to win the car. It turns out that his ultimate motive is to win the car and give it to Andy. Somehow he thinks giving Andy the car will cheer her up, but when Andy finds out, she flips out. I guess I would have done the same thing. At the end of the episode, Andy realizes, with a little help from Nicole, that Josh was only trying to make her happy and forget about her cancer for awhile. As Ausiello reported last week, the second season ends around Labor Day. The third season will start in early 2008 and air the remaining 10 episodes of the 23 that were ordered.
