Jeers: MSNBC Knightly News

Jeers to MSNBC for taking time out of its 24-hour news cycle to provide a blatant plug for sister network NBC's crappy Knight Rider remake. We're in the midst of an economic crisis - not to mention a presidential election - yet "The Place for Politics" stops the proverbial presses so that anchor Alex Witt can grill star Justin Bruening about whether he had to take driving lessons before getting behind KITT's wheel. Makes you wonder who's really in the driver's seat at MSNBC. Is that you, Ben Silverman?

Knight Rider Gets Resurrected

It may not be the same as it was back in the '80s when the Hoff was showing off his chest hair, but none the less, we're really looking forward to seeing how the TV-movie remake turns out. Taking Hasselhoff’s place in the movie is All My Children alum, Justin Bruening, playing ex-army ranger Mike Traceur. Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT will take some getting used, but the fact that the Hoffster will be making a cameo as Michael Knight makes everything a-OK. Will Arnett Brings Knight Rider's Three KITTs to Life

Jack Donaghy is going to have something to say about this. Not being a gearhead, the most interesting thing I culled from NBC's press release about the Knight Rider relaunch movie premiering Feb. 17 is that Alec Baldwin's gravelly voiced 30 Rock rival, Will Arnett, will take the baton from William Daniels and speak for KITT. Or make that the KITTs, as the Transformers-esque update boasts not one but three supercars: a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR as "everyday hero" KITT; the KITT Attack, aka a high-speed version of the GT500KR featuring "air-ride technology and specialized body parts"; and KITT Remote, which is driverless (akin to having Lindsay behind the wheel). It's also confirmed that David Hasselhoff will return as Michael Knight in "a special guest-star appearance." read more

SVU, Knight Rider and Other Short Cuts

Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi and America's Second Harvest are partnering on a charity auction featuring such gets as lunch with SVU's Mariska Hargitay, dinner with Heroes' Jimmy Jean-Louis and a visit with Food Network's Sandra Lee. Visit eBay.com/woodbridge for deets.... The fan site Jalopnik.com has photos suggesting that the new K.I.T.T. being used for NBC's upcoming Knight Rider movie/backdoor pilot is a 550 HP Ford Shelby GT500KR. Mind you, this K.I.T.T. shape-shifts, Transformers-like, so for all we know he's really a Pinto.... London simply wasn't getting into the groove, and as such a West End adaptation of Desperately Seeking Susan is being shuttered a month after opening night. read more

Premise: A former cop gets a new identity and teams with a talking supercar to fight crime after a wealthy benefactor saves his life. The chiseled lead actor had his fans, but the show was truly driven by the sleek, droll automobile KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a customized Pontiac Trans-Am that kept the hero on the straight and narrow between fistfights and female conquests. A TV-movie reunited man and car in 1991, and a sequel series, `Team Knight Rider,' ran on ABC in 1997-98.
