Katie meets folks with hereditary disfigurements, including a young man with neurofibromatosis who has a distorted face and curvature of the spine; and an aspiring animator with Treacher Collins syndrome, which leads to facial-bone malformation. Meanwhile, Katie is facing surgery to repair her eyelids, which were damaged in the acid attack, leaving her unable to shut her eyes properly.
As her charity nears its launch (with sponsorship by Simon Cowell), Katie meets a 16-year-old boy who was burned in a barbecuing accident and has had four skin grafts, and a 24-year-old unemployed law-school graduate who was burned in a house fire when she was 7, and who was scarred socially and economically as well as physically.
Series premiere: British model Katie Piper, who was disfigured in a 2008 acid attack, sets up a mentoring system to help others facing physical challenges. First up: Katie meets a ballet student with epilepsy who suffered severe burns after falling in a shower, and a 23-year-old woman whose life-threatening condition (known as arteriovenous malformation) has left her face disfigured and her marriage strained. Meanwhile, Katie continues her own treatments.
