July 18, 2006: Season 2 — Episode 6 (Season Finale) Season 2, Episode 6

How sad that this was the season finale! Not "sad" because the episode itself wasn't good, but because it sucks to have only six episodes of Kathy. But I must say, I was at least pleased that tonight's show prominently featured my two favorite supporting duos - Kathy's parents and Kathy's dogs. Let's break this down.... Kathy's Parents John and Maggie Griffin are just like relatives of mine back in Chicago, and like them they are an absolute riot. I could watch them every week so I was glad they were on so often. Tonight I enjoyed how Kathy said that no matter how positive her news is, she always has to "talk them into everything," such as taking them to a fancy beach resort. It was hilarious to watch Kathy give them a talking-to about the proper way to tip, since, in their minds, "everything costs the same as it did during the Depression." Kathy's Dogs Chance and Pom Pom each have personalities of their own, so how perfect was it to see them in a doggie fashion show tonight? As I've mentioned before, I never get tired of the frequent Chance and Pom Pom cutaway reaction shots, especially Pom Pom with the constant one-ear-up. Seeing them (along with Kathy) in matching ball gowns was classic ("if Pom Pom's outfit looks better than mine, I will kill that bitch!"). Other highlights: - Kathy ice-skating with Olympic skater Johnny Weir and his comment that he's a D-lister "just like Kathy Griffin." Loved the "romantic twirl moment" with Jessica. - Kathy with the Queer Eye guys ("I can talk trash with the best queens in the world"). - Kathy doing an Alka-Seltzer commercial ("you know - plop, plop, fizz, fizz - just like my career"), but something tells me that after her comment at the world's largest buffet, she won't be doing a commercial for Pizza Hut after tonight. Wow. - Kathy saying she'd even do a commercial for diarrhea (I won't repeat the line here, but you get my drift). - Kathy having the cameras record her conversation with the telemarketer asking her what drugs she was taking ("What are you on?") and Kathy's brilliant answer: "Bravo." - The roster of C- and D-listers scheduled to be in the doggie fashion show and Kathy's reaction: "You had me at Lipnicki." - Kathy's confusion about one of the transgendered people at the GenderPAC event ("He's wearing men's clothing. If you're gonna cut your d--- off, wear a dress!"). - Speaking of that event, I must tell you how surreal it was for me to watch one of my all-time best friends - Patrick Russo - on screen with Kathy. Patrick was the handsome guy who stood next to Kathy throughout (he was the one who Kathy pointed out as saying "She has cute hair!" and the guy who did the Bea Arthur walk-away movement at the end of that scene). I was quite proud of my friend. - Kathy and Matt playing a round of "Marry, F--- or Kill" with her parents (but since this is basic cable, the F word was switched to "Bang"). - The fact that Carmen Electra and Tori Spelling were no-shows at the Paws for Style fashion show ("Tori Spelling? Too big! But Griffin showed"). OK, Bravo - now it's time to put out a press release announcing a 3rd season. Tick, tock.... show less
