June 27, 2006: Season 2 — Episode 4 Season 2, Episode 4

I was glad we got to see more footage of the Iraq trip, since last week's hour wasn't enough. Because the army wanted to cancel Kathy's Baghdad show due to the insurgent bombing, how great was it when they turned the lights on? I couldn't imagine Kathy doing her whole show in the dark. Right away, I was laughing at her comment about crabs in Iraq: "My vagina has seen enough combat!" Other highlights: - I thought it was good that Kathy gave the soldiers an opportunity to be a part of her show during the improv portion. You could tell how happy they were to get their minds off the war for a brief moment. - I found it interesting that the troops are forbidden to make any jokes or disparaging remarks about President Bush, but that Dick Cheney is open target (so to speak). - Kathy saying she has "never felt so attractive" by being around the men in uniform, calling them "my new demographic - guys who hardly see any women at all" and saying, "They treated me like an A-Lister." - Kathy going back home, wanting to pig out but not being able to since Star magazine was coming back for her "after" photos. - Kathy's affection for cheese, and that if she could eat something like a "cheese dough stack," she would. - Watching Kathy with her niece Claire and bratty nephew Johnny killed me. - That Donna Summer once said to Kathy, "The Lord should wash my mouth out with soap. Donna Summer, who sang 'Bad Girls.'" - Kathy's feelings about children: "Children are like aliens - they might as well have antennas." - Kathy surprising Claire with Talan from her favorite show Laguna Beach, and the romantic music they edited in when he walked in and hugged her. - Kathy about Talan: "I'm not going to say he's slow" but rather "learning disabled." - Kathy saying Iraq was much easier than being a parent. - Kathy's comment about the sight of her two fighting dogs: "That is not unlike the struggle within me between good and evil that goes on all day." Shut up. - Kathy telling radio host David Bender that an Iraqi native asked her not to show him on camera or he'd get his throat cut: "When we make that throat-cut gesture, we're joking." - Kathy finding her "Baghdad gay" since she speaks "fluent gay." - Kathy asking her parents for help with her niece and nephew, but that she couldn't figure out who was more exhausting - her parents or the kids. - Kathy saying, "Kids are hard! Why does everyone want to have them?" - Kathy missing "the old Kirstie Alley photos." - Kathy, after weighing in and losing 17 pounds (five more than she had to), eating her "post weigh-in meal" that, of course, had to include her specialty: cake soup. Lowlights: - I know that some of you have commented that you like Michael McDonald's Stewart character, but I am not a fan. Most of his other characters make me laugh, but not Stewart. - Every week I point out a specific scene I thought was staged. This week, I say Kathy purposely told her nephew to act bratty, especially since her niece was so well-mannered. Something tells me that kid isn't quite the demon that was portrayed. So in case you missed the promos, there's no new show next Tuesday since it's July 4. Bravo will be repeating the hilarious special Kathy Griffin: Strong Black Woman (I had the privilege of being in that sold-out audience and, of course, I laughed my butt off). Next new episode is Tuesday, July 11. See you then, but comment away.... show less
