  • 24 Preview: Has CTU Not Solved Its Mole Problem? | Today's News: Our Take | 3/26/2007
Last week on Fox's 24 (Mondays at 9 pm/ET), CTU staffer Nadia Yassir was identified as a mole feeding info to this season's baddies, prompting Ricky Schroder's Mike Doyle to give her a helluva scare in the interrogation room. But is Nadia really a turncoat? Or is she the victim of a masterful, 24-style setup? TVGuide.com debriefed Marisol Nichols on her character's unfortunate pickle. TVGuide.com: First off, talk CTU to me....Marisol Nichols: "I need you to upload the link to the variable... thing and decode it to my computer." TVGuide.com: "The variable thing"?Nichols: How about, "Upload the video image to my feed and decrypt it using an H5 QS"? TVGuide.com: Wow. You and Mary Lynn [Rajs read more
  • Was This TV Season Harsh to New Shows? | Today's News: Our Take | 5/10/2006
Reunion. Threshold. E-Ring. Invasion. Emily's Reasons Why Not. Love Monkey. Commander in Chief. Heist. What do these shows have in common? They all debuted at some point during this soon-to-wrap TV season, yet each saw their run either cut surprisingly short or handicapped by irregular scheduling. Was 2005-06 the worst year ever to sample a new show? Were the networks especially hasty in deciding the fate of freshman series? TVGuide.com consulted a panel of experts with unique points of view to examine this strange little season gone by. Are New Shows Getting Short Shrift?Jeff Bader, executive vice president of ABC entertainment programming and scheduling, dismisses the suggestion that prime time is a crueler-than-ever proving ground for new series. • I'm wondering if you know ... | Matt Roush | 4/17/2006
Question: I'm wondering if you know what's happening to In Justice? I think that show is wonderful, and it's the only Friday show I have ever watched. The three issues of TV Guide magazine I have sitting here don't have the show listed. Tell me it wasn't canceled! Answer: First off, bless you for having all of those TV Guides around; your TV room sounds a lot like mine. As for In Justice: ABC aired all of the episodes that were produced for the mid-season tryout run. They aired consecutively, in order and without interruption (or without much), and the last scheduled episode aired March 31. We won't know if it's renewed until May. The numbers weren't great, but on Fridays they rarely are. And my mail suggests that the audience that watched the show was loyal. So we'll just have to wait and see. I'd guess its chances are 50/50 at best, and its renewal would depend on how strong ABC's drama development is for next season, although it's tough to know just what would work for ABC on ... read more
  • Why is In Justice being ... | Today's News: Our Take | 3/29/2006

Question: Why is In Justice being adjourned? I love that show — almost as much as Veronica Mars.

Answer: Well, it has something else in common with VM: bad ratings. Although ABC isn't officially saying it's a goner, several cast members — including upcoming Desperate Housewives star Kyle MacLachlan have committed to other projects. Always a bad sign.

  • Has In Justice been canceled? ... | Matt Roush | 3/24/2006
Question: Has In Justice been canceled? I just read on the entertainment news page that Jason O'Mara has been cast in a new show. I quite like In Justice. It's perfect for Friday night, and it would be a shame if ABC didn't give it more of a chance. Answer: When stars of "on the bubble" shows like In Justice take roles in pilots for the following season, these new roles are in what's called "second position." In other words, if In Justice gets renewed (which seems unlikely, though it's not dead quite yet), he'd have to stay with his previous show and they'd have to recast his new role or otherwise rework that pilot. Kind of like what happened to John Stamos when Jake in Progress got a pickup (what a mistake) and ER's producers had to rethink the cast-regular role they had planned for him ... read more
