Originally `Staccato,' the title character was a jazz pianist who moonlighted as a private eye when he wasn't performing at Waldo's, a smoky Greenwich Village club. Despite a catchy Elmer Bernstein score and frequent appearances by trumpeter Pete Candoli's combo, the pulpy detective drama was canceled by NBC, though it was picked up by ABC and repeated through the summer of 1960.
