The conclusion covers the years 1961-2000, when the jazz world, says narrator Keith David, "was a tower of Babel," bebop morphed into hard bop, avant garde and "free jazz," and Miles Davis began experimenting with a jazz-rock "fusion." Among the major players: Max Roach, Charles Mingus, Cecil Taylor and, of course, John Coltrane. But 'Trane died in 1967. Also passing from the scene: jazz's titans, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.
