It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Episode Recap: "Mac's Big Break" Season 6, Episode 4

In this week's episode, Mac answers a sports-radio trivia question for the chance to take a shot from center ice during a Flyers game while Frank tapes Dee and Dennis' back and forth banter resulting in their own podcast.

The podcast doesn't take off at first, but savvy (and ridiculous) Frank brings in a few guests to spice things up. This gives us our first encounters of the season with our favorite priest-turned-street rat, Cricket, ours and Charlie's favorite coffee house waitress, The Waitress (we have yet to crack her name), and a former lover of Desert Rose — er, Dee's: Ben the Soldier.

Cricket's return has been one I am sure Always Sunny fans have been waiting for. His voice is a bit scratchy from when Frank (aka The Garbageman) sliced his neck open in a wrestling match for the troops, but he's as Crickety as ever. Which means he's even crazier than the last time we saw him. He seems to be over Dee and is "in the hot seat," doing whatever he wants. Does this include pouring a bucket of sink water over The Waitress? Sure. Did she think it was a vat of soup for her to drink out of a shoe for $500? Sure. What did you expect? At least she has some morals, refusing to drink out of the shoe topless.

Meanwhile, we find out that Mac can't even skate, let alone take a slap shot. In fact, he took the hockey stick and immediately began using it as a weapon, as he is usually inclined to do. Fortunately, Charlie is there to teach him the ways - both skating and shooting. I uncrossed my fingers once this lead to a delightful montage of Charlie teaching Mac to become the intermission superstar he yearns to be... duster on, of course.

Once it's time for the big show, Dennis and Dee bring a copy of their tape to Charlie and Mac to give to the radio personalities. It seems as if Mac is the hero, rifling a slap shot through fake, cardboard goalie. Any faithful viewer would know this was a dream, the truth being that Mac tripped over his skates and fell flat on his face the second he hit the ice, sure to be spread by YouTube over and over again. But for now, it's on the big screen at the rink.

Rickety Cricket, The Waitress, Ben The Soldier? Thanks, guys. Will we soon see the McPoyles? And Artemis, please step forward. My man Frankie's looking for ya!

Premise: Seriously dark comedy about four dissolute friends who run a struggling pub in Philadelphia. Dennis, Dee, Mac and Charlie are absolutely (even gleefully) amoral. They're 'Seinfeld' characters on steroids, clowning their way through story lines that 'Seinfeld' writers wouldn't have touched.
