A history of "the city's first outsiders, the city's transformative leaders" traces the Irish in Chicago back to the 1830s, when recently arrived immigrants helped build the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Stories of those workers, along with those of later Irish immigrants, are interspersed with profiles of present-day immigrants and Irish-Americans. Aidan Quinn is the host.
