Silicon Valley activists struggling to bridge the digital divide are profiled in "Secrets of Silicon Valley." Magda Escobar, the director of Plugged In, a non-profit computer-training center in East Palo Alto, Cal., networks easily with high-tech heavyweights, but worries: "What happens when Plugged In is no longer the sexy thing to fund?" Raj Jayadev's worries are here and now. A temporary employee at a printer-assembly plant, he began protesting working conditions and was soon fired.
