True Blood

"There's no place like home" may be a familiar refrain, but, with their business in Dallas complete, Sookie, Bill and Jason return to a Bon Temps they barely recognize, thanks to Maryann's black-eyed coup d'état. To make matters worse, it appears that Bill's vampire voodoo is no match for the maenad's mind-control mayhem, and Sookie may be too late to help Tara out of her Dionysian daze. One bright spot, however, may be the chance that Jason can put his commando training to good use after all.

Just when you thought it was safe to go out at night again, the vampire drama that generated so much fang-fare its first time out is back for a second season. It's a precise continuation of last year's cliffhanger — picking up with Sookie and Tara mid-scream in Merlotte's parking lot — so we won't have to wait to identify the body in the back of Andy's car. And that's not the only surprise in store, as Jason takes a wrong turn down a righteous path, and Sookie adjusts to Bill's new housemate.

Drew Sherwood and Rick Yemmm Ice Road Truckers
The first thing Hugh "the Polar Bear" Rowland tells me when we climb into his massive snow-white Freightliner truck, preparing to head onto the northernmost ice road in the world, is to leave my seat belt unbuckled. He says if something goes wrong out here — on the frozen Mackenzie River, 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle and headed toward the Beaufort Sea — hitting the windshield will be the least of our worries.
He laughs when he says this (Rowland laughs a lot), but he's not kidding. The temperature outside is 20 degrees below zero, and if you're in a 50-ton vehicle that happens to go through a soft spot in the ice and into fast-freezing water that will kill you in 10 minutes or less, you don't want to be strapped in. He's got his sleeves rolled up, his window rolled halfway down, like a man going out for a Sunday drive. I, on the other hand, am bundled into as many layers of Gore-Tex and thermal underwear as I can find, barely able to bend my legs and climb into

Ice Road Truckers courtesy History Channel
Twentieth Century Fox is taking the premise of History Channel's hit reality series Ice Road Truckers and adapting it as the basis for a scripted tentpole feature film, says Variety. Truckers, which started as a special and later became the cabler's highest-rated series, follows drivers who navigate 18-wheelers over a 350-mile highway made of, well, ice, delivering supplies to diamond miners working the tundra of Canada's Northwest Territories.

NBC has inked a deal with Thom Beers (creator of cable's Ice Road Truckers and Deadliest Catch) and producing partners Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun to develop a three-hour block of action-adventure/reality programming. The order for each of the three series is 10 episodes, and while the exact programs have yet to be determined all parties are currently sifting through a dozen different ideas it is believed they will be in the same vein as Truckers and Catch. The consensus is that the block would air Friday or Saturday, or perhaps even Sunday following football.
