Ratings: Modern Family Leads ABC Charge

Modern Family dominated Wednesday, leading ABC to an easy win.

The sitcom drew 12 million viewers and a 4.7 in the adults 18-to-49 demographic, up five-tenths from its last new episode. In fact, all of ABC's shows rose, with The Neighbors (6.6 million, 2.0) climbing a huge 25 percent.

Larry Hagman to Appear Posthumously on CBS' I Get That A Lot

Larry Hagman

Larry Hagman fans will be able to see the dearly departed Dallas star on the small screen this spring.

Hagman, who died in November, will be featured on the CBS special I Get That A Lot, in which celebrities masquerade as ordinary people and then act like they're not stars when they're inevitably recognized. The actor filmed his segment in September, and appears as a salesman offering free samples of barbecue sauce, according to the network.

Ratings: Modern Family Comes Back Big

Modern Family

ABC's reigning Emmy-winning sitcom Modern Family  returned from its holiday hiatus to its usual perch atop Wednesday's prime-time ratings, Nielsen overnights show.

The show improved by some 10 percent over its last first-run on Dec. 7; the network's other sitcoms also were all up compared with their last fresh outings on that date.

Her actions just may keep Brick from moving on to the third grade next school year. In other academic news, an aptitude test shows Axl to be gifted, and Frankie works to get Sue recognized in her classes.

Wednesday's ratings recap:

CBS' I Get That a Lot, in which celebs played jokes on us regular peeps, got enough viewers — 10.34 million — to win the hour. Lie to Me placed second with 8.98 mil, dipping 10 percent from its previous outing. 

Law & Order: CI repeat (5.06 mil) delivered nearly double what the now-canceled Chopping Block had been getting. ABC's Scrubs scored 5.05 mil, discharging 280K, while Better Off Ted held steady at 4.7 mil. Top Model surged 38 percent, to 3.95 mil.

9 pm
American Idol delivered 23.7 million viewers, down 6 percent from last week's results show. Opposite (and yet trailing) a Criminal Minds repeat, Lost found 9.35 million heads, up 6 percent week-to-week. Life, meanwhile, taunted the "bubble" with a 29 percent gain, hitting 5.57 mil. 

10 pm
As CSI: NY and Law & Order served leftovers, Life on Mars said goodbye to 5.86 million viewers, adding 190 thou in its last hurrah.
