It is said that the legend of Sleepy Hollow returns from the grave every All Hallows Eve. The restless and headless horseman seeks revenge on whoever stands in his way. However this time, local high school students have a chance to stop him and put an end to the tortured legend.
Ian, a new boy in town, is a talented high school kid with his eye on Karen, the head cheerleader and girlfriend of Brody, the arrogant, possessive football quarterback. They live in Sleepy Hollow which is home to the most famous ghost story of them all, the legend of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. Brody gets his kicks scaring Karen and his friends with tales from the legend, but when two students go missing right before Halloween, people begin to be frightened.
Ian encounters Claus, the crazy grave keeper, who convinces him that Ian and his family are direct descendants of Ichabod Crane, and the headless Horseman is going to come back on Halloween to take his revenge on the town. Ian scoffs at the bizarre old man s prediction. So Claus brings him more evidence.
On Halloween, Kevin leads the traditional hayride tour through the decaying cemetery while other high school kids re-enact various characters from the legend. Brody plays the role of the Headless Horseman. During the last hayride of the night, the real Headless Horseman suddenly makes a dramatic appearance, complete with Jack O Lantern head. He begins to chase and kill everyone, all the while collecting heads as he goes. Ian manages to help the people including Brody and Karen, to get away, as he fights off the Horseman and escapes from the cemetery. Just when he thinks they are all safe, Claus tells him the Horseman will now go after his own father Carl and Ian must find the courage to save his father first and then team up with him to try and send the horseman back to the grave, from where he came.
