June 27, 2007: Sex, Lies and Videotape Season 1, Episode 7

Could there be any more twists to this murder? I've never seen so much lying, cheating and video archives in my life. Liza, Liza, Liza, please tell me you have a good explanation for that video of you and Eddie fooling around on the night of his death. Please. But what's even more upsetting? The parents. The pathetic, sad, disturbed and deranged parental units churning the evidence into bits of drama soaked with guilt. Let's start with Maria Nolan. P-S-Y-C-H-O. That's right, I said it. She's obsessed with Cliff, can't take no for an answer and apparently has been hiding for the past year to keep up the appearance of a grieving mother who just lost her son to an unexpected suicide. Right. Meanwhile, we've got Greta's father, Skip, who now realizes his mug was caught on tape the night of Eddie's death, laying the gun ever so carefully in the bloody teen's hand. But did he kill him? Did he work out a plan with Maria? Where did that case report come from? On another note, Skip is altogether ridiculous with his wandering hands and eye for college seniors and married women. Did he teach Cliff how to be a hit-and-run lover? A couple of my favorite scenes included Johnny witnessing Cliff tearing apart his room after realizing the angel dress was gone, as well as the scene of their little confrontation. Asking Johnny if he blames himself for his father's suicide was pretty heavy. And let's not leave out Jesse Jo's performance! Well done, lady, er, man. He's really a great little addition to the show, providing bits of wisdom at just the right moments. I cracked up when Johnny imitated his accent. At least Nikki didn't take a swig the minute she saw Cliff and Maria going at it in Eddie's old room. How gross was that? And now that Tess knows her son's little secret, everything is bound to come out. I'm hoping there's some truth to be heard in the finale next week. Despite Cliff's naughty trysts, something tells me Nikki will quietly see Cliff despite her making him leave at the end. After all, she understands what it's like when no one believes in her, and that was all Cliff needed to say to break her down. I'm beginning to believe that Greta really didn't have anything to do with Eddie's death, though. Anyone else agree? I was getting tired of the back-and-forth with her and Johnny: One minute they're kissing, the next they're not talking. I wanted to believe Liza this whole time, but now I'm uncertain of her role. We are definitely swimming around in a bizarre little bubble here, but I wouldn't expect anything less from this Palm Springs crew. Drag shows, desperate mothers, bloody angel costumes and one giant episode of Scooby-Doo. (I chuckled when Cliff spit that out.) At this point, I'd expect Cliff's nose to be as long as a telephone pole, but the "battery bunny" seems to be running everyone in circles, so I'm going along for the ride. Anyone have it all figured out? July 4 is bound to bring some fireworks.... And it better be a clear night. Check out clips of Hidden Palms in our Online Video Guide. show less
