Discovery Apologizes for Airing Explicit Episode of Honey Boo Boo in the U.K.

Discovery Communications has apologized for accidentally airing an expletive-filled episode of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo in the U.K.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ofcom, Britain's media regulating agency, said that they were alerted to the offensive language, including five instances of the word "f---" or "f---ing" and 11 scenes with the word "s—t," by a complainant whose six-year-old child was watching. The episode broadcast at 8 p.m. which is before what's considered the 9 p.m. "watershed" when edgier programming can begin airing.

Ofcam said that Discovery "extended its unreserved apologies to the viewer for any distress caused by the offensive language in this case" and that the company "investigated this incident and had discovered the program had been broadcast as a result of human error. Discovery accepted immediately that this program breached rules 1.14 and 1.16, apologized and took various steps after the broadcast to ensure it was not shown again before it was re-edited and to improve compliance going forward."
