Grey's Anatomy Recap: "Love the One You're With" Season 9, Episode 3

After two very dark episodes of Grey's Anatomy, the series' third outing offered some lighthearted moments with the couples. Where April and Jackson reunited and there was hope on the horizon for Calzona, Owen and Cristina finally cut themselves off. Could this be the end for them?

The big question of the episode, though, was whether the plane-crash survivors would accept a settlement from the airline company. Let's take a look at this week's top moments:

Are they going to settle? The airline company offers the plane crash survivors a giant settlement, but it isn't as easy as it sounds. On the one hand, everyone would be taken care of for life if they accept — Mer and Der would want to travel — but on the other, they wouldn't get answers as to why the crash actually happened, something Derek struggles with heavily. In the end, he decides to lead the charge not to accept so the company is forced to investigate in the hopes that this won't happen to future Marks and Lexies. Maybe this is what Kevin KcMidd meant when he said things would get professionally ugly for Owen.

Cristina finds a new friend: Cristina goes back to work in Minnesota, but must first prove she's a team player by babysitting Dr. Thomas. Though she disagrees with his methods, the duo finds common ground since Thomas is pretty much a male version of Cris. Not only does he care solely about the medicine, but he was also in a plane crash in Vietnam. He even makes her laugh. Meanwhile, Cristina and Owen try to be friends over the phone, but she decides to cut him off.

Slutty Alex is slutty: Alex has been sleeping with every intern in the hospital, which is why Callie tells him to quit doing that. In turn, he keeps Jo at arm's length so he won't end up sleeping with her. Try as she might to get into one of his surgeries, he just won't relent, to which Jo finally breaks down and cries — what did we say about that?! — and Alex admits why he did that. After replying she wouldn't sleep with the man-whore anyways, he finally lets her in on a surgery. (We still don't like her.)

Surprise! When April returns to Seattle Grace, she's shocked to see that Jackson never left for Tulane. Jackson is disheartened to find that April is trying to pretend like they never slept together since she is re-virginizing herself — which is how Meredith finds out about their romp. But their attraction is undeniable and they end up hooking up again.

Bailey's frustrations: Now that her old interns are attendings, Bailey has to share the lounge with them. Much to her frustration, they're treating the attendings lounge like their own personal playground. But her feelings are misplaced: She's upset that Tuck has gone off to school, her ex-husband Tucker is getting remarried and Ben is in medical school while she's still just a general surgeon. Webber gives her a kick in the pants to realize she's free to do whatever she wants now.

Arizona's realization: Still in the midst of her lengthy recovery, Arizona is far from letting Callie in — or even touching her. When Callie asks Arizona to come to the settlement meeting, the latter retorts that Callie has made all the tough decisions thus far, so why not one more? Ouch. When Callie comes home to find Arizona on the floor of the bathroom, having urinated on herself after attempting to make it to the bathroom on her own, Callie has had enough. She forces Arizona into the shower, crying that Arizona can't be the only one upset because this is her life now too. This forces Arizona to realize that she's not alone. Hopefully this will expedite bringing back happy Arizona. We miss her. A lot.

Callie hits it out of the park: While dealing with a distraught wife, Callie sure knows how to keep it light. She had the best lines of the night. First, when she told Alex to stop sleeping with his co-workers because he ruins them, he points out that he once slept with her. "And now I no longer sleep with men!" she replies. Bazinga! Second, when Jo tries to get on her service by flirting, Callie nearly takes her up on the offer. "You're poking a bear, a very horny bear," she says.

What did you think of this week's Grey's Anatomy? Are you sad Cristina and Owen are apparently no longer speaking? Are you happy Arizona and Callie made headway? How do you think not taking the settlement will hurt the docs in the long run? Hit the comments with your thoughts!
