Grey's Anatomy Episode Recap: "Not Responsible" Season 7, Episode 16

In this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy, Meredith's fertility treatments have a severe side effect, Mark makes it clear he plans to be an active father to Callie's baby, and April sees a new side of Dr. Stark.

MEREDITH, DEREK, ALEX and LUCY
The episode opens on Meredith and Derek planning their dream house, but Mer could care less about the blueprints since she can barely read them.

Meredith's latest Alzheimer's patient, Allison, tries to explain her daily schedule, but her son, Kyle, has to keep filling in the blanks for her. Meredith notices a bump on Kyle's neck, which has gone unchecked since they've been so busy taking care of Allison.

Meredith later asks Alex to check her eyes because they've been getting worse. She insists that she can see when she squints, but he tests her with the chart and she's nearly blind. Alex tells Lucy he has a friend who can't see because of her fertility pills, but she thinks he's just looking for another excuse to ask her out. When he does, she shoots him down again.

Allison later goes in for the surgery, and Meredith is excited she's actually getting the drug instead of the placebo. To celebrate, Meredith gets to drill the holes in her head, but just as she goes to do so, she admits to Derek that she can't see. Lucy says she has to stop the fertility drugs, which has caused Meredith's blindness. The Chief benches Meredith until she's cleared.

APRIL, ARIZONA and STARK
April takes on Kyle's case, and soon learns that he's going to need surgery. Dr. Stark steps in, saying that this kid should've been checked out much sooner. Once he learns that Kyle wasn't seen because his mother has Alzheimer's, he orders April to call Child Services. Meredith worries that making the call will make things worse for this family, so April tells Stark it's a bad idea, but he stands his ground.

April goes to Stark again, saying that because Allison will have to get checkups for the clinical trial, Kyle will be safe. Surprisingly, Stark says it's fine. He later decides to ask April out on a date because she convinced him not to call Child Services, and no one has changed his mind in years. She agrees.

CALLIE, ARIZONA and MARK
After getting an ultrasound, Lucy asks Callie if she'd like an amnio. Mark immediately interjects, saying Callie shouldn't have a giant needle stuck in her belly. He's scared that they'll lose the baby, but Arizona wants to make sure they know what they're in for.

Callie wants to weigh the options, saying she has more of a say for the baby anyway, which makes Mark explode. He's not just there to be the one stuck babysitting when she wants to go out. "I'm a parent!" he yells.

Callie decides to go ahead with the amnio. Instead of getting upset, Mark says that he just wanted Callie to think about it, and he's glad his equal say was counted. Callie is impressed at Mark's reaction, but Arizona says she doesn't get excited over "Mark things." She's somehow agreed to a lifetime with Mark, and she's not pleased. "I never picked him," Arizona says. "This is not my dream."

OWEN and CRISTINA
Since everyone is freaking out about babies, Cristina thanks Owen for not trying to knock her up. Owen says she'll probably change her mind after her residency, but she says she's not going to. He gets upset that Cristina hasn't thought about his vision of their life together, but she still doesn't budge. She tries to say that maybe they shouldn't have gotten married, but he says she can't threaten walking out. "You have an obligation to at least pretend that you care what the hell I want," he yells, before storming out.

TEDDY, JACKSON and LEXIE
Their patient, Ricky, is getting a lung transplant because he has cystic fibrosis. After Ricky's girlfriend goes into a coughing fit, she accidentally knocks her purse over and Lexie finds pills for cystic fibrosis that belong to her. Lexie and Jackson say that they're not allowed to date because they both have this disease. They explain that no one but people with cystic fibrosis understands. Teddy tries to talk some sense into them, saying that if they don't break up, he won't get the lungs.

They decide to break up, but Lexie finds the girlfriend outside of the hospital during the surgery. Lexie bluntly tells the girl that she'll literally kill him if they stay together, and that she'll find someone else. "Tell him he has to find someone," the girlfriend says through tears.

After Lexie breaks the news to Ricky, Jackson sticks around to make sure she's all right. Jackson says not to worry because people don't have one soulmate, including Lexie. Jackson admits a crush on her, and the pair ends up in a soapy, steamy shower together.

THE CHIEF and BAILEY
Adele has returned to the ER after falling in the cereal aisle at the supermarket. After Mark patches the cut on her head, Bailey takes on Adele's case. Once Bailey runs more tests, Adele changes her story, saying she tripped at the pharmacy. Bailey decides to give her a Breathalyzer, but those tests come back negative as well. Bailey then asks for Meredith's advice, who says there may be some indication of dementia. Bailey tells the Chief that something is clearly wrong and suggests he speak with Derek. The episode closes on the Chief finding Derek, who is golfing on the roof with Owen and Mark, to plead for his help with Adele.
