Grey's Anatomy Episode Recap: "Something's Gotta Give" Season 7, Episode 8

In this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy, a high-profile case takes over the hospital when the Chief and others have to treat a Middle Eastern politician who isn't meant to be in the country. Meanwhile, Cristina doesn't know what to do with her spare time, so she decides to throw a housewarming party.

TEDDY, OWEN and THE CHIEF (with MEREDITH and DEREK)

During a post-patient presentation, Dr. Altman announces that Cristina has quit, which sends Mark into a frenzy and kicks Derek off into an episode-long rant about how Teddy put too much pressure on Cristina.

The Chief approaches Teddy and Owen after the presentation, inquiring whether he should send the letter notifying the board that Cristina has quit, but the pair asks for more time. In the interim, the three doctors must take on a high-profile case when a Middle Eastern politician is admitted into the hospital. No one can know he's there, and if he dies, there will be an international incident.

Meanwhile, Derek and Meredith are back in the on-call room! Man, it's been ages since anyone has, ahem, utilized one of those. However, they're quickly interrupted when The Chief enlists her help with the case.

Teddy and Derek are forced to work together in the OR when the case turns into cardio and neuro. The surgery is successful, as is the fact that Owen, Derek, Teddy and Meredith come to a detente on what they should do with Cristina.

CRISTINA and CALLIE

Callie is sick — lovesick, rather, and doesn't want to leave her messy apartment. When Mark calls her, there's a fleeting moment where she thinks Arizona is phoning, but he's just delivering the news that Cris has quit.

Callie heads to Cristina's place, who is just dancing around the firehouse and refuses to talk about work. Callie notes that she wants to cut her hair, but doesn't want to do something radical after having her heart broken. In turn, Cristina grabs a chunk of Callie's hair and cuts it off.

Cristina decides to throw a housewarming party, so they head to the mall to shop for furniture. Callie questions why Cris hasn't talked to Meredith about her situation, but it turns into Callie's plight of being single.

Derek arrives at the party early to warn Cristina that everyone is coming to have an intervention. Derek and Cris spend the party on the rooftop, drinking a bottle of wine and avoiding everyone. Meanwhile, Callie asks Mark if she can move in with him.

ALEX, APRIL and DR. STARK

After a whirlwind weekend in Vegas, Alex returns to the hospital late when his car breaks down. It's a bad day to be hungover, though, as the new pediatric attending Dr. Stark hounds Alex. Interestingly enough, Stark doesn't seem to care much about bedside manner, which is what Alex initially struggled with in the early years of Grey's.

Even during surgery, it seems as though Dr. Stark doesn't care about medicine, let alone patients. When the surgery is unsuccessful, Alex gets upset with Dr. Stark for lying to the patient's parents. Alex comes up with a creative way to save the patient, but Dr. Stark shoots him down. Instead, Stark does exactly what Alex came up with, but takes the credit.

April finds Alex in the on-call room and tells him that he deserved the credit. Wait for it: They make out. On-call room part deux! She wants to take things slow, which causes him to explode on her, yelling that he can't take care of everyone. When Alex arrives at Yang's party, Jackson punches him for treating April terribly.

It turns out that Alex didn't go to Vegas, he went to Iowa to visit his brother, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

JACKSON and BAILEY

Jackson thinks everyone doesn't want to work with him, so he tries to get on Bailey's service. She initially refuses, but when the Chief asks her to take over his cases, she enlists his help.

Still, Bailey refuses to let Jackson in surgery, but after one of her patients takes a turn for the worse, Jackson must run an OR on his own. Unfortunately, the patient dies. Jackson yells at Bailey, saying it's not his fault. Really, she's just frustrated that she's had a string of big losses and could really use a win.

So concludes another episode of Grey's Anatomy, which has really reignited the fun inside and out of Seattle Grace this season. It was nice to see some normalcy in the doctors' lives. Sometimes you forget they are people, but seeing Cristina just enjoy herself in the mall made me yearn for more outside of the hospital moments.

What did you think of this week's episode? Was Alex totally out of line with April? (Yes.) Should Cristina come back to the hospital? (Yes.) Is it a bad idea that Mark and Callie move in together? (Yes.) You've heard my thoughts, now share your own in the comments below.
