May 15, 2006: Deterioration of the Fight-Flight Response/Losing My Religion Season 2, Episode 26

If all my favorite shows could end their seasons with a two-nights-in-a-row action-packed two-parter (some may call it a three-parter) like Grey's, I'd be overjoyed. But are you as exhausted as I am? Wow. After all of that rigamarole, Denny is dead. I guess I kind of expected it since it was the season finale and they needed something overly dramatic to end the year, but I, like a plethora of you comment-makers, really got to dig Denny. It made sense to a lot of us that Izzie would fall in love with him, mainly because Jeffrey Dean Morgan did such a fantastic job in his portrayal. What didn't make sense to lots of us was how unethical Izzie was being, so it didn't surprise me when she said, "I thought I was a surgeon, but I'm not, so I quit." Very nice that Bailey supported her with a gentle "Izzie... " especially after the wrath she gave all of them earlier ("Where are my suck-ups?!"). My favorite Izzie supporter, however, was the last person we expected to show comfort: Alex. I'll admit it: that scene made me cry. Alex telling Izzie (figuratively), "That's not Denny" right before picking her up and carrying her from Denny's bed? Bawled. I had only just wiped away the tears from watching Finn, Derek and Meredith put Doc to sleep. My roommate Jason: "Did they have to kill off Doc and Denny?" Luckily, there were several uplifting moments (besides Denny asking Izzie to marry him and her accepting) such as the prom they gave Dr. Webber's niece Camille after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer for the second time. Leave it to the hilarious Loretta Devine to deliver the funniest line of the night (amidst the tragedy) to Camille earlier after she realized Camille just lost her virginity: "When your Uncle Richard finds out you were cashing in your V-card, none of us will be fine." I enjoyed when Addison and Adele reminisced about their first times. Quite interesting that Webber didn't know that Adele knew about his affair with Ellis all these years. Getting back to Bailey, Chandra Wilson certainly ran the gamut of emotions tonight and I got a kick out of all of them, especially when she spoke "teenage girl" to all of the friends of Camille. Sandra Oh also gave us her all tonight, as did the entire cast. I loved Cristina begging Webber to teach her how to get her edge back. Glad she came to her senses and grabbed Burke's hand at the end. I kept thinking (during his surgery), "Why is Cristina just standing there?!" There were lots of great Cristina-Burke moments, like when she told him: "That was my best 'supportive girlfriend' and you kind of ruined it." My usual fave T.R. Knight had several awesome scenes tonight. Case in point was George telling Callie: "Give me some time to mean it" after she asked him if he was going to reciprocate the "L" word to her. The best George scene was when he told Meredith he knew she didn't have feelings for him (the night they slept together), "But I still let it happen. One night with you is better than never," and then he told her that he was sorry, rather than the opposite, which was surprising to hear. But speaking of surprises, what did you all think of Meredith and Derek getting together? Can't wait to read all your comments. The only reason it didn't come out of left field for me was because of the scene between Meredith and former prom king Finn. How obvious was it that Meredith just doesn't have the same feelings for Finn as she does for Derek? I was actually happy Der & Mer got together and what made me even happier was that Addison didn't walk in on them - Callie did. How about that look on Callie's face? Priceless. Some final random notes: - Loved, loved, loved the group narration at the beginning! - When Cristina said: "Chief!" in a high-pitched voice to Webber, I thought she sounded like Nancy Culp as Jane Hathaway to Mr. Drysdale in Beverly Hillbillies. - Hallee Hirsh played one of Camille's friends and the reason she might've looked quite at home in a hospital show was because she was one of the actresses who played Mark Greene's daughter Rachel on ER. - Why is it that everyone's hair looked fabulous at the prom but Meredith still had her same 'do (which is more like a "don't")? - I'll sure miss this show during the summer months and I bet most of you will, too. Seriously. show less
