May 14, 2006: 17 Seconds Season 2, Episode 25

First thing I have to say? How awesome is it that we don't have to wait an entire week for part two of this (literally and figuratively) heart-pumping season finale? For those of you who refuse to watch the scenes from next week at the end, let me remind you that the season finale concludes tonight - Monday, May 15th, from 9 pm to 11 pm/ET - not next Sunday. So OK, how ridiculous is Izzie? As my roommate Jason pointed out while we were watching, no one would be that stupid and put their medical career in jeopardy by cutting the cord on the machine that was pumping Denny's heart. I've heard of strange ways of showing affection, but inducing heart failure just so the man you love can jump to the top of the heart-donor recipient list? And then she brings George in on it? Loved his "What are you, crazy?" face. Poor George. Just when he's all calm and cool with Callie, he has this to deal with. It was great for George to explain to Callie that Meredith and Izzie are family to him (so basically, she shouldn't be mean to them). So nice of her to show Meredith those bone-cancer X-rays and advising her about her dog, Doc. Tell me you were hating Callie like I was when she ridiculed Meredith for asking about Doc's health. Callie certainly redeemed herself in the end, although she shouldn't have used the "L" word on George so soon, and it's sad that we now know Doc only has a year to live. How soap opera-esque was the big confrontation between Addison and Derek? She just had to loudly proclaim that she knew Derek was still in love with Meredith right in front of whom? Meredith, of course, along with Dr. Webber and lots of others. I was glad she did it, though, just as I was happy Derek didn't say anything to Meredith on the elevator. Meanwhile, I'm assuming those gunshots at the end were from the same (unseen) disgruntled employee who shot a bunch of his coworkers, since we saw the annoying boss guy (played by Ken Marino, who I'll always remember as the guy Grace dated on Will & Grace who had six toes on one foot) shot and possibly dead on the ground. But Burke was also shot and on the ground. Oh, the suspense. Countdown to tonight at 9pm EST! Three side notes: - That was Sidney Poitier's beautiful daughter Sydney Tamiia Portier playing one of the coworkers shot by the disgruntled employee. - If the doctor who Burke was competing with to get the heart looked familiar, that was Brooke Smith, who played Catherine Martin in Silence of the Lambs. - For you Jeffrey Dean Morgan fans: Our own Madison Michele interviewed him for TV Guide Channel's The 411 and she told me he was "one of the nicest guys around and even more handsome in person - oh, if I wasn't happily married..." If you were wondering, he's single and straight. show less
