September 21, 2006: Time Has Come Today Season 3, Episode 1

I f---ing love this show. There -- I said it. And to use the title of the episode, "Time Has Come Today" for all us Grey's fans to rejoice -- we finally saw our season premiere! I want to say right away that I really enjoyed all the flashbacks -- and not flashbacks to scenes we've already witnessed ("previously on Grey's Anatomy"). It had a sort of Lost feel to it with the backstories -- not completely Lost-like since most of the scenes were things they've alluded to before, but it was great to finally see them: - The very first time Izzie and Alex said "Seriously" to each other. - George introducing himself to Meredith in an oh-so "I'm Dorothy -- the small and meek" way. - Meredith flashing way back to her childhood and recalling her mother arguing with Dr. Webber at an amusement park. - Cristina meeting Burke for the first time. - Derek throwing Addison out of their home ("We're not 'Derek & Addison' anymore!"). - Derek's first meet-n-greet with Meredith at the bar. Those last two were my favorites. Yes, it was wrong for Derek to seduce Meredith without telling her he was married, but now we got to see just how hurt he was after Addison slept with his best friend. Thank you, Shonda Rimes -- this was all much appreciated. As for the present-day scenes, how much do we love Callie? Two of the funniest lines in the show were her's. The first was Callie to Finn ( Chris O'Donnell): "I'm a total freak. I'm that girl in the back of the class who eats her hair." Shut up. Then when Meredith walked in: "I'm gonna leave the room for a long period of time for no reason whatsoever." Now that Sara Ramirez is a series regular, it will be interesting to see how Callie and George progress. The fact that he feels he can't reciprocate her "I love you" yet kills me. I was quite happy when he still couldn't say it back to her at the end. I want him to do it when he's ready, which may be "soonish." The entire cast was fabulous as usual, but I felt the very best acting came from Chandra Wilson. Her scene with the (mysteriously) uncredited Steve Harris from The Practice made me (and my roommate, for that matter) cry. How horrible that Miranda couldn't comfort Omar physically after telling him his wife had died so she did it by having him touch his hand to the door's glass adjacent to her own hand. It's always nice to see those rare tender-Bailey moments. A close second in the Emmy-caliber acting was fellow supporting-actress nominee Sandra Oh. Cristina crying and saying to Burke "Don't ever die" and Burke saying "I'll do my best" had me crying again. Other highlights: - The schoolgirl finally admitting to Addison that she was the one who secretly had the baby without her parents ever even knowing she was pregnant. - Bailey whispering "I'm so sorry" to the dead Denny. (Did I mention I cried several times?) - George calling Meredith "dark and twisty." - Izzie on the floor most of the episode looking very Charlize Theron-esque, and the scenes with her best friends George and Meredith laying on the floor next to her. - Addison washing, drying and then folding Meredith's panties into a Ziplock baggie, and then putting the panties on the hospital bulletin board under the Lost & Found section. Uh-uh! - George bonding under quarantine with Derek and asking if he ever told Meredith he loved her and Derek saying no, followed by George saying he told Meredith he loved her, which prompted Derek to encourage George to tell Callie he loves her "before it's too late." - Finn acknowledging to Meredith that they "weren't exclusive" and saying she might think she "doesn't deserve good things" but she does: "Derek -- he's bad for you. Me -- I'm a good thing and if there's a race -- if there's a ring, my hat is in." - Adele (the divine Loretta Devine) asking Richard to retire -- it's her or the hospital. - Izzie finally getting up at the end: "I'm ready." Absolute best scene was also at the end when Derek said to Meredith: "I'm in love with you. I want you to take your time. You have a choice to make and when I had a choice to make, I chose wrong." Swoon. What did you all think? I'm curious to see if you agree with me that this was a fantastic way to start the season. Seriously. show less
