Episode Synopsis: It's Thanksgiving and Izzie's cooking a turkey, but nobody's excited about it. Meredith sneaks off to the hospital (on a day off), where she and Derek treat a man in a persistent vegetative state---who wakes up. Cristina and Burke arrive for the feast, and Burke promptly takes over in the kitchen while Cristina finds an excuse to go work. Premise: Surgical residents at a Seattle teaching hospital hone their bedside manners on and off the job in this medical drama, which parlayed a cushy initial time slot (post-'Desperate Housewives') and a hefty dollop of sex and romance into immediate success. Indeed, in the opener, intern Meredith Grey sleeps with attending Derek ('McDreamy') Shepherd the night before starting work at Seattle Grace and discovers the next day that he's her boss. Their romantic ups and downs became the series' keystone.
