Greetings from Forgotten Florida

2000, TV Show

Archival footage and home movies are used to recall the attractions that made the Sunshine State a tourist haven from the start of the 20th century to the 1970s. The documentary traces the history of Florida tourism and looks at how it was transformed by cars, interstate highways and corporate theme parks (Disney World's 1971 opening was "the big bang," says narrator Ray Suarez). But mostly, it travels around the state, visiting old-time attractions and meeting the people that made them click.
