Pip wants nothing to do with Magwitch and rushes to confront Miss Havisham.
Pip starts his new life as a gentleman in London, quickly acquiring expensive tastes and mounting debts.
This acclaimed adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic Victorian novel is dark, sometimes savagely comic and wholly unsentimental. Pip's epic journey from blacksmith's apprentice to London gentleman has at its center his relationships with the terrifying convict Magwitch, the manipulative and vengeful Miss Havisham, who wishes to destroy all men, and the beautiful but cruel and cold-hearted Estella. Period drama starring Charlotte Rampling, Ioan Gruffudd, Justine Waddell and Bernard Hill.
A terrifying encounter with an escaped convict proves to be a pivotal event in Pip's childhood, as are his enforced visits to the eccentric Miss Havisham and her ward, Estella. Estella is proud and rude, but exceptionally beautiful, and she mocks Pip for his humble status so that he longs to be rich and educated, as she is.
