Gossip Girl Episode Recap: "The Princesses and the Frog" Season 4, Episode 20

In this week's episode, Nate tries to hide the truth about Raina's mother from her, Charlie gets closer to Dan, and Serena tries to sabotage Blair's chance at a happily-ever-after.

A Royal Affair

Blair kicks off the episode with a phone call to her mother, telling her she has some big news to share as she stares at something sparkly on her all-important finger. Flashback to yesterday morning. After spending several days together, Blair and Louis' budding relationship shows no signs of slowing down soon. Louis tells Blair he has something important to discuss with her, but his mother barges in before he can finish, telling him canoodling with an American is disgraceful to the family — especially for someone who is about to be married. Blair storms off without waiting for an explanation. Louis' mother makes a call, thanking the person on the other end for helping track down her son. That person just so happens to be Serena.

Louis finds Blair to explain that he is not engaged, but the royal court is pressuring him to find a fiancé, so his mother has flown in her top 10 candidates for a cocktail party, and he is to choose one by the end of the night. Blair goes to plead her case to Louis' mother, but Serena has sent the princess every archived Gossip Girl article in which Blair is mentioned, and she understandably does not approve of all the drama that has surrounded her. Blair wins her over anyway by telling her that at least her dirty laundry is out in the open for her to know. The other nine candidates are all hiding their skeletons.

Later at the cocktail party, things seem to be going Blair's way until a drunk Chuck shows up with the engagement ring he intended to give her last year. He makes a scene and the princess has him thrown out and tells Louis to end things with Blair.

Charlie in Charge

Vanessa offers to help Charlie win over Dan because she is leaving the country and wants to make sure he is left in the right hands.

Rufus is vying for a producing gig with a new indie band, so Rufus and Eric offer to help woo them. They figure a pizza and beer dinner at the loft in Brooklyn is much more suitable for a rock band than a lavish five-course meal on the Upper East Side, so Charlie offers to head to the loft early to make pizzas and set up. When the guys show up, however, she has an elaborate dining room set up and has dinner catered from lavish French restaurant Per Se.

When Rufus immediately leaves to divert the band before they arrive, Charlie knows she messed up and breaks down in tears in Dan's arms, saying she was only following Vanessa's advice. Dan wants to put a stop to Vanessa's games once and for all, so he texts her to meet him at the bookstore, but Charlie insists that she fight her own battles and goes alone.

Happily Ever After?

Nate shares with Raina Chuck's discovery that Bart was having an affair with Avery Thorpe, and she conveniently died in his fire right after she tried to end things with him. Raina now understands why her father has been so unwavering in his determination to destroy all things Bass, and calls in an old player familiar with the game to help continue his work — Jack Bass.

Charlie admits to Vanessa that she didn't take her advice, but instead claimed that she purposely sabotaged the night. Her damsel-in-distress card played out well (boy, it didn't take her long to cross over to "the other side"), and Vanessa is once again bested by an Upper East Sider — and a transplant at that!

Blair shows up at Chuck's to tell him she's over him and he's once again destroyed her chance at happiness with someone else. He freaks out, punches his hand through a glass wall, cutting Blair's face in the process, and she gets a proposal from the prince anyway — some girls have all the luck!

What did you think of the episode? How long until Dan sees Charlie's true colors? Can Uncle Jack knock Chuck down a few more notches, or is he already at his lowest? Will Blair and Louis become the new Kate and Will?

Until next week... XOXO
