Gossip Girl Episode Recap: "Damien Darko" Season 4, Episode 13

In this week's episode, Damien returns to stir up more trouble for the Van der Woodsen clan, Blair and Dan fight to the death for an internship at W, and Chuck and Nate come to terms with The Captain's new job.

Friend or Foe?
Blair and Dan make plans to see another movie this weekend, while continuing to pretend to hate each other. That whole hating each other thing becomes much easier, though, when they realize they each have one of the six coveted internship spots at W magazine. Who would have thought this Upper East Side princess and brooding Brooklyn hipster would end up on the same career path?

When a famed author who was set to be the guest of honor at the W party that night backs out at the last minute, Blair and Dan put their networking skills to the test to see who can secure the best replacement author, with the loser resigning from the magazine. Blair's first instinct, or course, is to sabotage Dan, but Dan knows the way to any girl's heart is a good sandwich, so when he surprises Blair with lunch, she has a change of heart and decides to play fair.

Dan, on the other hand, assumes Blair is up to her usual tricks, so he takes a page from her playbook and calls her author and tells her there's been a mistake. When Dan's author is the only one to show up to the party, Blair realizes she's been played and causes a scene in front of their new boss. They are both fired.

Risky Business
Nate is upset with his father for accepting a job with Thorpe. The Captain says that Chuck is family and he would never do anything that would jeopardize that relationship, but this was an opportunity he never thought he would get again after leaving prison.

Chuck assumes they hired The Captain to get dirt on Chuck, so he asks Raina to fire him. She is offended that Chuck would assume she would be anything but professional — this from the girl who is to be sleeping with all her business associates.

The Return of Ben
Serena and Ben are quite chummy again, both apparently forgetting that they had almost been the cause of each other's demise. Serena seems surprised when, over breakfast, Ben tells her he is headed upstate for a fresh start. It makes sense, though, when she goes home and finds out Lily had tried to pay him off to stay away from the family. Enter Eric with one of the best lines of the night: "Mom paid someone off again? We should make this into a drinking game."

Ben doesn't stay away for long, though. He shows up at the W party to warn Serena that he's seen her brother hanging with Damien. She doesn't believe him until she sees the two of them off by themselves in what appears to be a drug deal. They cover their tracks by making it appear like they are an item and had escaped the party for some alone time.

Ben convinces Eric that Damien is bad news, and Eric admits to Rufus that he did buy drugs from Damien, but had little interest in them. He just wanted someone who would listen to him in the mist of his family turmoil and crumbling relationship. Serena thanks Ben for helping her brother, but learns the hard way that infinite cleavage and come-hither looks don't work on everyone -- Ben tells her he didn't want to be with her three years ago, nor does he now.

New Beginnings
Dan feels guilty after he finds out Blair wanted the internship so badly that she got it all on her own, without her mother's connections. He calls their boss and takes the blame for everything. Blair gets her job back.

Rufus meets with Ben to apologize for his wife's actions and to offer him a room at the loft while he gets back on his feet.

Ben threatens to tell Damien's father about his drug dealing if he doesn't stay away from Serena and Eric, but of course this only encourages him. He immediately calls Eric and offers to lend him an ear, and poor, vulnerable Eric agrees, not knowing he is just a pawn in one of Damien's games.

What did you think of this week's episode? Are Ben and Dan going to be roomies? Will they pine over Serena together during slumber parties at the loft? What are Damien's plans with Eric? And will Dan and Blair continue to be "just (non-) friends?" Until next week... XOXO.
