Gossip Girl Recap: "Goodbye Columbia" Season 4, Episode 5

This week's episode saw Serena dealing with an embarrassing STD rumor, while Blair battles a certain new Columbia student for a prized position as a guest lecturer's assistant.

Serena is making a habit of turning up late for her English Lit class thanks to a cute guy from her apartment building who keeps snagging cabs from her to send his one-night-stands home. Flirty banter ensues and we wonder: Has S found some new man candy?

Juliet tells Ben that everything seems to be working, but he questions her intentions with Nate. She tells him she is only keeping Nate close to keep Serena on her radar. Ben tells Juliet not to stop until Serena is left with nothing, just as he was. Columbia will be the first to go.

What did Serena do to him to make him want to destroy her so badly?

A Gossip Girl blast goes out suggesting that Serena has an STD. (Really? That's the best idea Juliet could come up with to destroy S?) Juliet tells Nate she wants him to get tested before they spend the night together, and Dan goes with him for moral support. When a picture of Dan at the free clinic shows up on Gossip Girl, Vanessa is convinced that something more than a kiss happened between Serena and Dan last spring.

Meanwhile, Blair is doing everything she can to snag a spot in her role model Martha Chamberlain's guest lecture series at Columbia, but Chuck has another plan. He has enrolled at the school to continue his war on Blair. He sabotages her plans to woo Martha into making her an assistant, and then threatens to take everything that Blair cares about away from her, just as she did to him.

Vanessa is going crazy thinking about what happened between Dan and Serena. Her desperation to find out the truth makes her the perfect target for Juliet. Juliet convinces her to steal Serena's phone from the coat check at the Hamilton House party so they can scour it for incriminating evidence. Vanessa is relieved when she finds an email from Dan confirming that nothing happened. Juliet tells Vanessa she's not the only one worried about her boyfriend's sexual health, so Vanessa stands guard while Juliet is supposedly searching for information. What Vanessa doesn't see, however, is Juliet sending an email from Serena's phone.

Serena approaches her English Lit professor and the dean of the school to apologize for her continual tardiness and prove that she is serious about the class. The dean tells her that they had just been discussing Serena's behavior and that sending an email as she had, promising sexual favors in exchange for grades, was grounds for expulsion. Serena denies the accusation and realizes her phone was stolen. Vanessa overhears and feels responsible, so she goes to confess that she and Juliet had her phone earlier and someone else probably took it after them. Juliet doesn't want her cover blown, so she slips the phone into Vanessa's purse as she is walking up to Serena and the dean. Juliet suggests that Serena call her phone so that the culprit can be identified. When Vanessa's bag starts ringing, she is as surprised as everyone else. Unfortunately, nobody believes her denials, and Juliet is left looking like a hero. Serena thanks Juliet for helping her find out the truth and goes to drink her troubles away with her handsome, cab-stealing neighbor.

Cut to Chuck, making good on his promise of war on Blair. He is on the phone with a contact who works with Tim Gunn, trying to secure an interview for someone who will be applying to Parsons: "Her name is Jenny Humphrey," he says.

Wow! How do you feel about the Little J coming back on the scene? Will the dynamic duo of Chuck and Jenny be enough to take down Blair? Who is Serena's new mystery man? Will Dan forgive Vanessa for her crazy antics? Until next time... XOXO.
