Glee Episode Recap: "A Very Glee Christmas" Season 2, Episode 10

In the final Glee episode of 2010, Finn tries to bring some holiday cheer to McKinley High, which is fine by Brittany, who still believes in Santa. Meanwhile, Sue rigs the teachers' Secret Santa in her favor.

The episode opens on Emma trying to warm up to Will by inviting him to her and Carl's Christmas party. They haven't spoken since she revealed her marriage to Carl. Will isn't in the holiday spirit, and doesn't mind spending Christmas alone, so he declines. However, he's a teacher, so he has to take part in this year's Secret Santa. Much to his chagrin, he picks Sue's name.

Elsewhere, Artie jokes that he asked his parents to stop requesting him on Facebook as his Christmas gift. When Brittany inquires what he's going to ask Santa for, he realizes that she still believes in Santa.

As the kids decorate the rehearsal room with Christmas gear, they sing "The Most Wonderful Day of the Year," from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Their misfit Christmas tree is a representation of New Directions: Even though they've won sectionals, they're still losers. Will suggests New Directions go around caroling in classrooms to raise money for a charity. They sing "We Need a Little Christmas," from Mame before being kicked out of their first classroom.

Artie tells the glee club that Brittany still believes in Santa, and wants everyone to play along so her world can still be magical for a little while longer. The club takes Brittany to sit on Santa's lap in the mall. After each clubber gets a turn, Brittany sits down and asks Santa to give Artie the power to walk again.

Later, Rachel creates a magical wonderland in the auditorium as part of her Christmas gift to Finn. The actual gift is one song, but he declines and walks out on her. She stays and sings a gloomy version of "Merry Christmas Darling," originally performed by The Carpenters.

Over at Dalton Academy, Blaine tells Kurt he got hired to perform at a holiday party. To help him practice, the pair sings "Baby, It's Cold Outside," by Frank Loesser. Following that, Will surprises Kurt with a visit, but is only there to get advice on what gift to give Sue.

When Will, Emma and Beiste discover they all chose Sue's name for Secret Santa, they decide to take all the gifts out of Sue's office and donate them to charity. This infuriates Sue, who dresses up like the Grinch and steals Christmas from McKinley High. She removes all the presents and destroys all the decorations as "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" plays. Brittany, dress liked Cindy Lou Who, catches Sue, but thinks she's really Santa.

Finn refuses to let the destruction of the Christmas decorations ruin their holiday, so he and Rachel venture out to find a new tree. As they search, they sing "Last Christmas," originally by Wham! Despite Rachel's best efforts to get Finn to warm up, he makes their break-up official.

Brittany catches Coach Beiste, who is dressed like Santa, in her living room. Santa Beiste explains that she won't be able to give Artie the power to walk for Christmas, which disappoints Brittany. Beiste describes a young, outcast girl, who always asked Santa to help her fit in and not be so husky. Instead, Santa gave her patience, which Beiste hopes Brittany will have as well. However, Brittany loses her Christmas spirit.

The club plans to give away their prized possessions — watches from the boys, and hair from the girls—so they can raise money for the charity. Instead, they sing to the teachers, who donate money during the performance. Just as Sue celebrates getting all her gifts back, she hears the voices of the glee club singing "Welcome Christmas," from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Becky notes that Christmas came anyways. "It's beautiful," she says. "It is," Sue replies.

The glee club returns to their rehearsal space to see that Artie has a Rewalk, which enables him to slowly walk standing up. He can't use it all the time, but he's happy, as is Brittany. They found it under Brittany's Christmas tree and she believes that Santa brought it, but as the camera zooms out, Coach Beiste looks on with a sweet smile.

Will goes home to be alone, only to find Sue Sylvester there. She has set up a tree and presents, which are the gifts for the charity. She does give him an electric razor so he can shave his head, though. She also invited over the New Directions, so Will wouldn't be alone on Christmas. "I thought you hated Christmas," he says. "No, I just hate you," she replies.

And with that, there are no more episodes of Glee until 2011. What did you think of the Christmas episode of Glee? Was it too overstuffed with songs? Did Sue pull off being the Grinch? How did Coach Beiste afford the Rewalk? Hit the comments with your thoughts below.

Happy Holidays and I'll see you guys next year!
