Glee Episode Recap: "Vitamin D" Season 1, Episode 6

Will challenges the glee club to a boys-vs.-girls competition with a mashup showdown. The boys take on Bon Jovi and Usher, while the ladies belt out Beyoncé and Katrina and the Waves. Meanwhile, despite having no medical experience, Terri becomes the school nurse to keep an eye on her husband.

The opening of "Vitamin D" finds Will trying to get glee club to step up their game. Unfortunately, glee thinks sectionals are going to be a breeze and so they aren't putting in any effort. Why does the club think the competition is going to be a cakewalk? They're competing against a school for the deaf and an all-girls halfway house. My spidey-senses say those clubs are going to be exceedingly excellent, despite what glee thinks.

While Will is trying to figure out how to inspire glee, Sue Sylvester says she needs to put fear in their hearts. Will actually agrees with her. Light bulb! Will thinks if he pits the boys against the girls, they'll finally take the competition seriously. Each team has one week to create a mash-up of songs to top the other team. Whoever wins gets to choose the song glee performs at sectionals. Both the girls and boys think they're going to win the competition, everyone except Finn who's seemingly stressed out about his pregnant girlfriend.

Before we go any further, let's take a short interlude to read Sue Sylvester's diary:

"Dear journal, feeling listless again today. It began at dawn, when I tried to make a smoothie out of beef bones, breaking my juicer. And then at Cheerios practice, disaster. It was unmistakable. It was like spotting the first spark on the Hindenburg. A quiver, that quiver will lose us nationals, and without a championship, I'll lose my endorsements, and without those endorsements, I won't be able to buy my hovercraft. Glee club. Every time I try to destroy that clutch of scab-eating mouth-breathers, it only comes back stronger, like some sexually ambiguous horror movie villain. Here I am, about to turn 30, and I've sacrificed everything, only to be shanghaied by the bi-curious machinations of a cabal of doughy misshapen teens. Am I missing something journal? Is it me? Of course it's not me. It's Will Schuester. What is it about him, journal? Is it the arrogant smirk? Is it the store-bought home perm? You know journal, I noticed something yesterday. Of course, it's coming clear to me now. If I can't destroy the club, I will have to destroy the man."

Sound similar to a serial killer's diary? Yes, Sue is out to murder glee club, and she uses Will's wife, Terri, to achieve that goal. Sue tells Terri that Will and Emma are heading for a full-blown affair, and she needs to act quickly. Sue wants them to move away, but Terri wants proof. After convincing the principal, Terri takes on the job as the school nurse.

After Will tells Emma that she's the "celebrity judge" who decides the winner of the boys vs. girls glee competition, Terri wrecks their precious moment, announcing that she's going to be at school all the time as the new nurse.

Elsewhere, Finn is falling asleep at every turn. He can't get Rachel out of his head and everyone wants something from him. Exhausted, Finn heads for the nurse's office. Terri questions why Finn is so tired and he confesses that he's been thinking about girls more than often. Terri doesn't take well to a man liking two different girls and chides Finn. She then remembers how she survived in high school and offers Finn some decongestant pills. He even gives some to the boys so their number will be rocking, since the pills are more like straight caffeine.

After the boys perform a rousing mash-up of Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" and Usher's "Confessions," the girls realize they must step up their game or face the consequences. Kurt later comes clean, telling the girls they were on pills. Rachel confronts Finn about taking pills to cheat. Finn's on the offensive saying she's just mad that the girls are going to lose. It's time for Rachel and the rest of the ladies to take their own dose of pills.

Seeing that kids would be much happier if they were on those caffeine pills, Terri asks former Acafellas member Howard to pick up 36 more boxes. Unfortunately, her bright idea is overshadowed when football coach Ken tells Terri, "I think my girlfriend is in love with your husband and I wouldn't be surprised if the feeling is mutual." After giving Ken a few of her special pills, Terri says he has to man up and propose to Emma.

At lunch, Terri tries to stick it to Emma by trying to kiss Will in front of her. Will puts his foot down, saying Terri being at school is not good for their marriage. He says he needs his space. After Will walks out, Ken takes this opportunity to propose to Emma. His proposal is actually pretty sweet.

Back at glee, it's the girl's turn to perform. Taking on a sped-up version of Beyoncé's "Halo" and "Walking on Sunshine," by Katrina and the Waves, the girls wow the club. Now it's time for Emma to decide the winner, but Will takes this opportunity to ask her if she's going to say yes to Ken's offer. Terri catches this exchange in the hallway and goes to Emma's office, telling Emma to back off.

Later, Quinn speaks to Terri about her offer to take Quinn's baby. Quinn says she wants to give her baby away because she likes her life the way it is. She's not ready to raise a child, which is fine by Terri, whose crazy plan is finally coming together. Quinn also tries to get Terri to pay for her medical bills to no avail.

In the locker room, Emma asks Ken what getting married would mean for the pair. She wouldn't want to live together, take his last name or see him pretty much ever. It's a secret marriage and she's game. Consider them engaged.

The principal finally outs Terri for giving drugs to the students. Will's not pleased and Terri has to resign. Unfortunately for Will, his judgment is also called into question and the principal says he's appointing Sue Sylvester to co-direct the glee club.

In the final moments of the episode, Emma tells Will that she has accepted Ken's proposal. You can just see on Will's face that he's very hurt. It's so heartbreaking.

Should Will and Emma get together? Is Quinn scheming to get money from Terri? Watch "Vitamin D" and then hit up the comments.
