When Aaron proposed to Joan in Girlfriends' seventh-season finale, fans suspected that that episode was the series' swan song. But it wasn't. The show returned for an eighth and final season. But instead of going out with a bang, Girlfriends went out with a whimper — another victim of the writers' strike. Today, CW executives announced there will be no new post-strike Girlfriends episodes because the network has decided to "focus its creative and financial resources on shows that are in consideration for renewal next year." So Monday's episode, where Joan (Tracee Ellis Ross) read her fiancé Aaron's letter to his former students and learned that he would be returning from Iraq in two weeks, will be the series' last. On Feb. 4, American Gladiators is expanding to 90 minutes... at least briefly. Its two-hour season finale in turn has been scheduled for 13 days later, when it will lead into the Knight Rider pilot. Deal or No Deal will also go to an hour and a half on Feb. 4 and 11, while Medium is on hiatus till its six new episodes begin airing on Feb. 18. As for Scrubs, still no sign of its return. Although TheFutonCritic.com says the Peacock considered bringing it back on Thursdays at 8:30, specials, repeats and other crap will continue to fill the 8-9 pm/ET hour. Strike, strike, strike. No matter how hard we try to carry on like it's business as usual, we can't. Normally, this article would start with something like, "This is a big week for Golden Brooks, when 'Snap Back,' the Girlfriends episode she wrote about how Maya secretly deals with her miscarriage, finally airs." But when we called the actress to talk about her career mile-marker, we ended up discussing the more pressing show business at hand. The CW's Girlfriends airs Mondays at 9 pm/ET.
