An adaptation of Kingsley Amis's 1960 comic novel about love and lust in 1950s Britain. It opens with lothario Patrick Standish eyeing Jenny Bunn, a suburban-London teacher who's both `unnecessarily pretty' and `a nice girl.' Patrick isn't her only pursuer, so, he sighs, `it's going to be a long haul then.' The series aired on `Masterpiece Theatre' and was written by Andrew Davies.
