First off, I want to apologize that I couldn't post this entry immediately after the season finale. I actually had planned on it, but a crippling migraine completely ruined it for me Friday night. (Great way to start a weekend after a stressful week, eh?) Comments from Last Week:OK, I hear ya on the nickname Scoobies, so we shall remain Ghosties. Er... wait, Jena H. has volunteered the nickname "Whispies." What shall we call ourselves when new episodes premiere: Ghosties or Whispies? Let me know in the comments, and I'll tally the votes. Also, regarding the sexual tension between Mel and Gabriel, I didn't mean it in an overtly creepy way, I mean it in the subtext. *Sigh* OK, I'm an actor, so I often notice when an actor is creating tension below the surface, or when they're creating their own subtext. I felt that Ignacio Serricchio was playing his role with a slight bit of flirtation with J. Love, and I actually was right. I guess I pick up on things like that because I analyze chara...

OK, I'm thinking of changing my nickname for us all from Ghosties to Scoobies, because we totally called it! The moment I saw Payne "walk through" Kate, I yelled, "Ha! We knew it!" Although we were pretty good at guessing she was probably a ghost, I don't think any of us saw the following series of events coming. At first, I was thrilled at the prospect of Kate joining Gabriel as Mel and Payne's nemises from beyond, but Rachel Shelley's bio on IMDb doesn't list any episodes beyond "The Collector." IMDb isn't always up to date, though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we may see her again during all of the havoc that is about to ensue in May. Now then, about "The Collector." By the end of this episode, my jaw was literally on the floor. The show had more suspense than ever, and took some twists that I don't think any of us could have predicted, even with the weeks of foreshadowing we've been nibbling on since the season premiere. As Mel and Payne rattled off the various signs t...

This was an episode that we've all been waiting to see: the day when Melinda finally shares her gift with Delia. The circumstances leading to that moment of truth were pretty surprising; I'd never anticipated that it would happen due to a haunting by Charlie. I found Charlie's backstory with Tim to be particularly interesting, and now I hope that Tim and Delia will have more of a prominent role on the show as stronger supporting characters. I wouldn't mind seeing some scenes with Mel, Jim, Delia and Tim on a fairly regular basis. Some dinner parties, some dates, some fun conversations. Tim and Delia are both very likable characters, and many of us have lamented that Delia in particular hasn't been given strong enough story lines. Well, now that we finally got the "big reveal scene" that we've wanted for so long, I hope the writers will continue to build on her character from this point forward. It was so shocking to hear Delia call Melinda "sick" when first learning of her gift, but ...

This was a very strong new episode, and worth waiting for. Any show with cute animals gets bonus points from me. I'd always been a cat person until I got married and wound up with two "dog babies" of my own. Now I love dogs as much as I love cats, each for different reasons. Do you all remember the last episode with Bob the dog, when I'd mentioned that Melinda needed to learn about "calm assertive energy"? See? I was right! I would have liked for the scene with Cesar Millan to be a little bit longer, but it was cute. The whole Homer-Bob story was a fun way to lighten up a pretty dark and intense episode.I don't know that it was intentional, but in the beginning of the show, when they were focusing in on creepy doll faces and clown faces, one of the clowns made me think of the movie Poltergeist, which wound up being the big mislead until the ghost showed herself. I'm glad that they milked the poltergeist angle for a while, because getting Payne into the Gordons' house with all of tha...

A heartfelt thank you for doing such a great job filling in for me last week. I had to play "catch up" all week, and prepare for Oscar weekend, so I just didn't have time to return. Once it was Friday, I thought... "well sheesh, by now, it's old news and... they all covered last week's episode so well... maaaan, they don't even need me!" Thank you also for wishing me well, because it definitely worked and I am feeling 100 percent again. Now then, let's get into the new episode. I really hope last week's promos didn't literally scare off too many of you, because this was one of my favorite episodes ever. At first, I was prepared to be annoyed that this was going to become a poor attempt to cash in on a popular horror franchise [zombies], or that it was about to become another "crime drama" mystery in an attempt to compete with Medium. Thankfully, this episode became one of the most creative and well written of the season, and I really had fun watching it.Judging from last week's comm...

Applause to Ghost Whisperer for a wicked-cool Grammy Awards tie-in with Mary J. Blige as a guest star. She did a great job acting, and didn't seem at all to be "big music star playing actor," which often happens when pop stars get cast in TV shows and movies. It was actually her performance this evening that made me cry when her character realized her little brother was in the light. I also thought it was clever that we wound up hearing one of her songs through the cheerleading competition, rather than through an obligatory forced concert at the end of the show. Very clever and smooth Grammy Awards cross-promotion for CBS.Melinda was an adorable little freak in high school, wasn't she? She looked like a cute manga character, which I wouldn't exactly consider "nerdy," even by today's standards. But I s'pose to cheerleaders and the popular types, she would seem a bit different and be treated like a freak. Actually, her character in high school reminded me of the role that J. Love play...

With just enough testosterone and just enough sentiment, this is the Ghost Whisperer that probably bridged a gap or two between male and female viewers. Although, I think that the men got the better end of the deal, because I didn't shed a single tear out of it. Oh, well.I guess that our theories of Payne's wife possibly being a ghost have been debunked. Not only is she not a ghost, she's the gorgeous actress Rachel Shelley, who also happens to be one of my favorite characters on The L Word (Helena). I wonder if we'll see more of her.... She sure does seem to be threatened by Melinda, so we're not the only ones that have caught on to Payne's... um... affinity for Mel. I think that Mel, Jim, Payne and Alice should have dinner together one night, what do you think? (Wink, wink)I hope that Tim's reason for standing up Delia is soon revealed. Although she's holding her head high and moving on, I still don't believe that he did it to hurt her. There had to have been a good explanation, a...

Ahhhh, yes. Red eyes and a tear-streaked face feels so good after meandering through a couple of consecutive "dry" Ghost Whisperer eps over the holidays. I can't help it. I like to cry during this show, because it's quite cathartic. Whenever I watch an episode that doesn't make me cry even a little, I feel rooked. But I'm a classic romantic. A certified sap. And I make no apologies for being a horror nerd that also enjoys a little tenderness in my shows here and there. With Ghost Whisperer, I get just enough dark and creepy with just enough tears shed *to keep me in touch with my inner sentimentalist. *I draw the line with my music collection. Not a single Celine Dion or Air Supply CD in the bunch, I swear. Would the soundtrack to Pretty in Pink be considered a sappy CD to own? A Ghost Whisperer's Best Friend"OK, Bob, you lead." Tsk, tsk, Miz Gordon. The Dog Whisperer could teach you a thing or two about "calm, assertive energy!" Well, you've never claimed to be a dog whisperer (at ...

Melinda: Do you want me to kick down the door?Professor Rick Payne: Yes!!! Forever a classic Mrs. Gordon-Professor Payne moment.I'm starting to get the feeling that the relationship between Melinda and the quirky teach may be forming a bizarre Gordon-Payne love triangle. Melinda often seems irritated with the professor, but nobody — not even Melinda, I believe — can deny the tangible chemistry between them. It even seemed as though, when she confessed to Jim that she'd told Payne about her gift, Jim's "wow" had a tinge of green to it — and it didn't come from the Amazon jungle. Or am I reading into things just a little too much? I did find it odd that she would tell Rick before Delia.... Then again, the fact that he had a connection to this ghost did make it inevitable. Is this a new plot device to get somebody in there to shake things up a bit in the Gordon marriage? I guess that time and further hauntings requiring the knowledge and advice of a prolific, cynical ...

I keep forgetting to mention how much I love Ghost Whisperer's opening credits and main theme music. Ghost Whisperer, Dexter, Medium, Masters of Horror and Battlestar Galactica all have fantastic opening titles that I actually don't forward through each week. The writer of Ghost Whisperer's main theme is Mark Snow, best known for that creepy and unmistakable X-Files theme that so many (including yours truly) grew to love and tremble to. It's good to see him continuing the journey of writing spooky yet beautiful music for television.Did that first paragraph feel like filler? Well, it sort of is... just like this week's Ghost Whisperer. At least, it sure did seem like filler to me. You know, the episode that they purposely air at the end of sweeps, because they don't need to worry so much about ratings at this point? Yep, that one. Not a teary eye in the house this week. What's a Ghost Whisperer blogger to do?Well, let's look at the positives: Jim has not been killed off. As a matter ...

I've never been a fan of the whole "pop/rock guest star" sweeps stunt on dramatic or comedic TV shows — don't we see enough of Britney? Well, if the guest star was somebody like 30 Seconds to Mars' Jared Leto, maybe I would have a change of heart. But I swear, it's because he's also a good actor. (Cough)When I saw this week's Ghost Whisperer previews, I was excited that this episode would have a musical twist. (I'm in a band myself, so I like stories that revolve around music.) However, the cynicism kicked right in at those ominous words: "Guest-starring 'N Sync's J.C. Chasez!" Are you kidding me? But in all fairness, Mark Wahlberg was once a New Kid, and now he's a great actor and acclaimed producer (Entourage). So I elected to open my mind and just let this week's episode roll... er... rock. Wow, "Joshua Chasez" is a decent actor. Who knew? Now, the Ghost Whisperer team was smart to keep him out of the spotlight and stick to a smaller role. If he wasn't a very good actor, we...

Living with an addiction to shows like Lost, Desperate Housewives and Battlestar Galactica can turn a TV fan into a nervous wreck these days, especially during November sweeps. These shows have been putting the "hang" in cliff-hanger lately, so I didn't really watch tonight's Ghost Whisperer in a relaxed, "Friday night TV" sort of fashion. I also happen to know that this Ghost Whisperer fan wasn't the only one on edge from this week's "a fire will tear them apart" promo. I feel silly admitting this, but I thought about all of you as the hour unfolded tonight. You have given me great comfort, as I've learned over the past couple of weeks that: 1) I'm not the only one who cries every week when I watch this show, 2) I'm not the only one who loves Jim and Melinda together, and 3) I'm also not the only one who would be about as heartbroken as Melinda if Jim ever left us.All together now, let us pause for a moment and take a nationwide Ghost Whisperer-community collective sigh of relief: ...

The DeepTonight's episode made me cry. I found the themes particularly sensitive, so this week's ghost story struck some chords with this viewer. The "sins of the father" impacting a family like a generational curse is particularly profound and a topic that can never be explored too deeply or conveyed too urgently. The bond between Mama Ghost and Lanie also came as a surprise: they both found the courage to "leave him." Studies on abusive relationships over the years have proven that leaving isn't as easy as one would think, but it can be done. It must be done. I love that this episode showed that it can be done. Pretty deep stuff for spooky television. The CreepsSpeaking of spooky television, should I take a poll to see how many of us find dolls thoroughly creeptastic? OK, all those who feel permanently scarred by every creepy doll ever flashed on a screen, raise your hand. "Me!" Had I been in Lanie's haunted shoes, I would have preferred a baby blanket as a token of Mama Ghost's lo...

Why? Why why why why why times infinity did Delia have to get stood up at the theater? I mean, I know that Tim's a firefighter, so I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. It's not like firefighters have the luxury of making a phone call when they get called to an emergency. But still, she took a few steps forward and now... I'm afraid that this disappointment will set her back. My heart nearly broke for her when he didn't show. I've been there before; it is not a good place to be. But hopefully, they'll find a way to work through this, because Delia and Tim are awfully darn cute together. I had wondered when they'd pick that story line back up, after he'd commented on how beautiful she was when they'd both attended that funeral earlier in the season. Now then, about the prospect of losing Jim. I'm starting to think that maybe all of these ominous signs are just a way to keep us on edge concerning Jim and Melinda. I mean, think about it. Typically on TV and in movies, a standa...
