Ian Abercrombie, Elaine's Boss on Seinfeld, Dies at 77

Ian Abercrombie, the British stage actor best known as Elaine's boss Mr. Pitt on Seinfeld, has died. He was 77.

Abercrombie died Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from complications of kidney failure, according to the Los Angeles Times. He had recently been diagnosed with lymphoma.

Born in England, Abercrombie started out as a stage dancer and made his American stage debut in 1955 in a production of Stalag 17 with Jason Robards. After serving in the Army as part of Special Services in Germany, he returned to acting, appearing in numerous plays, TV shows and films before a seven-episode arc on Seinfeld changed his life.

Leonard Stern, Honeymooners and Get Smart Writer, Dies at 88

Leonard Stern, a producer, writer and director who helped create The Honeymooners and Mad Libs, died Tuesday of heart failure, Variety reports. He was 88 years old.

A New York native, Stern got his start in Hollywood in the '50s writing film screenplays, including Abbott and Costello in the Foreign Legion, The Jazz Singer and the Jack Lemmon film Three for the Show. His career shifted to TV, and he began writing for The Jackie Gleason Show.

Premise: `Would you believe,' as Maxwell Smart would say, this spy spoof was for a time all the rage (and an Emmy winner to boot)? Baby Boomers can never hear that phrase, used by the inept agent when caught in a ridiculous situation, without recalling this series (co-created by Mel Brooks), which is filled with James Bond-style capers featuring Smart; his sexy partner, Agent 99, at the C.O.N.T.R.O.L. agency; and K.A.O.S., the sinister organization they battled, invariably with chaotic results.
