Question: I heard a rumor that Sci Fi is thinking about renewing Flash Gordon, despite the lousy ratings and being a lousy show, because of its cult following. It seems a little strange to me that they would renew such a downright awful show when The Dresden Files, which was much better and had much better ratings, lingers on without renewal even though there are lots of fans out there asking (and even begging) for it. If any show deserves renewal, it's Dresden, not Gordon. Is there any truth to this rumor? On another Dresden-related note, will fans ever get to see the two-hour "Storm Front" episode?
Answer: Got a bunch of similar e-mails all at the same time earlier this week asking this same two-part question. Hmmm, Internet fan conspiracy, anyone? I can't address the specifics of the Dresden Files episode — which I believe was a trimmed version of a longer episode originally intended as the pilot — except to say I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Sci Fi to step up where this show

Gina Holden, Flash Gordon
Sure, many actors from other countries are coming to the United States to act, but Gina Holden isn't among them. The actress is too busy working up in her native Canada not only in her role as Dale Arden — aka the true love of Flash Gordon (Fridays at 9 pm/ET, on Sci Fi Channel) — but she also appears in Lifetime's Blood Ties as a Goth mystery solver. Holden has two upcoming films as well, playing opposite Supernatural's Jared Padalecki and also braving an Aliens sequel. TVGuide.com asked Holden how she makes it all work (without the benefit of those spatial rifts found on Flash Gordon).
TVGuide.com: What attracted you to the role of Dale Arden? Gina Holden: I'm a big comic-book
Question: I'm really not enjoying Flash Gordon, which surprises me, because I really want to like it. I have happy childhood memories of watching the Flash Gordon cartoon, and as cheesy as it was, I thought the movie with the Queen theme song was wonderful. But this show has left me cold. The premiere took a ridiculously long time to get from Earth to Mongo, and it's not as if all that time was dedicated to developing the characters, since they seem to have the emotional depth of cardboard. And why does Ming the Merciless look like Rick Springfield? I understand some of what they're doing: Instead of a stolen spaceship going to Mongo and being stuck there, which would mean a ridiculous amount of money for a television show, you have a teleportation device. That way, you can have half the story be on Earth (no special effects) and the other half be on Mongo, which seems like an acceptable device to both update this idea and save on costs. But you'd think the few special effects would be ...
Eric Johnson, Flash Gordon
Flash! (Ah-ahhhhh!) Talk about being back with a bang. Sci Fi Channel's revisiting of Flash Gordon gave the network boffo numbers with last week's premiere. As the series continues Fridays at 8 pm/ET, TVGuide.com grabbed a hold of Flash himself, Smallville alum Eric Johnson, to share a peek into his out-of-this-world new world.
TVGuide.com: How did you go about acquainting yourself with Flash, who has been embodied by comic strips, cheesy movies....?Eric Johnson: There have been a lot of different incarnations of him — he's 75 years old — so I just got on the Internet. Gina Holden and Eric Johnson, Flash Gordon
Space aliens have invaded Maryland. Innocent citizens are being liquefied into goo. Space-time rifts are opening up everywhere and could trigger the destruction of the universe. Yes, a whole lotta hell breaks loose on the new Sci Fi Channel series Flash Gordon (premiering this Friday, Aug. 10, at 8 pm/ET), but the titular hero — played by Smallville vet Eric Johnson — is fiercely determined to save mankind from doom. Just not right now.
On the show's Vancouver set, Flash, who is wearing a dog collar, is friskily engaged in a boudoir wrestle with Princess Aura (Anna Van Hooft). She's the spoiled-brat daughter of Ming (John Ralston), evil ruler of the planet Mongo, and she only has eyes for Flash. But
