This generally forgotten 39-episode series, filmed in Europe, was a lesser adaptation of Alex Raymond's 1934 creation; it was preceded by a popular radio show (with Gale Gordon) and a series of Buster Crabbe movie serials (which gained a new generation of young fans when acquired for TV in the 1950s). In 1979, NBC launched a Saturday-morning `Flash Gordon' cartoon.
