Question: Riana worries that Veronica Mars won't be able to wrap things up like Everwood, but I have been wondering if it isn't a good thing that they aren't. Last year the main choice for the CW seemed to be between Everwood and One Tree Hill — which had a cliff-hanger that left all the teenage girls begging for more — while Everwood was able to give the network the perfect ending for the show. I have often wondered if that only made the decision easier for the network. If Veronica Mars shot a perfect ending for the season finale and the network heads were already considering not bringing it back, would that make it easier for them?
Answer: Perhaps, but the CW isn't going to keep the show alive just because the producers left some unresolved issues. I'm thinking about the viewer here who's going to be doubly frustrated if the CW cans Veronica Mars and, adding injury to insult, is also left hanging. At least one aspect of this is still in the writers' control. As for Everwood versus One

Question: OMG! That last scene in the last Brothers & Sisters with Rebecca and Justin overlooking L.A. was such a huge nod to Everwood! Any scoop on what's coming next?
Answer: More Everwood-esque bonding between half brother and sister, and a disastrous first date between Kevin and McCallister's yet-to-be-cast gay bro.

Although the February sweeps officially have been over for several days, Sunday night sure felt like a sweeps extravaganza, with game-changing episodes of two major series. Both pivotal hours, of Sci Fis Battlestar Galactica and ABCs Brothers & Sisters, dealt with the fate of daughters whose respective departure and arrival is setting off shock waves for their unconventional families (the Galactica crew and the Walker clan). The episode that undoubtedly will cause the largest stir in TV fandom was Galacticas riveting and ultimately devastating journey into the metaphysical, as Starbuck (a brooding, tormented Katee Sackhoff) finally faced and embraced her destiny. Which meant, in a series of visions and hallucinations guided by the specter of the not-quite-Leobon as if he were the Ghost of Psychodramas Past, that Kara had to confront the soul-crushing memories of her abusive mother, who instilled in the self-destructive Starbuck a belief that suffering was good f...

Question: I cannot believe you didn't give us the heads-up on the guest appearance of Everwood's Debra Mooney on Psych this past Friday. Please tell me you at least saw it.
Answer: I did see it, but I was as surprised as you were! Next time I run into someone from the USA Network, I'm gonna give them a slap on the wrist for not telling me beforehand. Then I'm gonna ask them how much they had to pay Warner Bros. for the rights to use the Edna Harper character, because, let's face it, that's who she was playing.

Indulge me while I do something completely out of character: Toot my own horn. As you know, back in August I publicly pressured Brothers & Sisters executive producer Greg Berlanti to cast his former Everwood ingenue Emily VanCamp in the pivotal role of Rebecca, the 20-year-old byproduct of Holly's affair with Nora's late hubby, William. Jump ahead five months and guess who was just tapped to play Rebecca? That's right Emily freakin' VanCamp! "The truth is, you do deserve some credit," Berlanti concedes. "The candlelight vigil you've had for her in this role really made a difference." Of course, it'd be disingenuous for me to not point out that VanCamp who makes her debut on Feb. 18 also had the support of some other influential players, namely Berlanti, fellow executive producer Ken Olin, and VanCamp's TV mom, Patricia Wettig. "Patty is over the moon," declares Olin of his real-life wife and colleague. "She loves her." So how's the woman at the center of thi...

Question: I don't know if you read all your e-mails, but I wanted to say that I enjoy the column. It's great to have it twice a week. Do you know when Emily VanCamp's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit appearance will be? I know you're a fellow Everwood fan, so I thought you might know when a former Everwood-ian would be appearing on my TV screen again. I heard it was some time during sweeps, but I was hoping for a specific date. I still miss Everwood dearly. I have found some solace in Friday Night Lights, a sports show of all things! Yes, I should refrain from calling FNL that. It's so much more. Everwood fans would probably call this blasphemy, but FNL reminds me of Everwood in many ways. There's a tragic injury, a troubled girlfriend, families in various states of unrest and a great small-town backdrop. However, I don't think that these direct parallels are what truly reminds me of Everwood. It's the emotions that the show evokes and the way the characters are drawn so vividly. ...

Sitting down? Are you? 'Cause I've got the best news ever. Seriously. You're gonna die. Or at the very least piddle yourself. The role of Rebecca has been cast on Brothers & Sisters, and you're not going to believe who got it: Emily VanCamp! OMG!This hasn't been officially confirmed by ABC or Touchstone, but it's true trust me. Emily starts work on Friday. Not exactly sure how our beloved Everwood grad went from being in the running to out of the running to landing the actual gig, but, well, who the frak cares!?! She got the part! We did it! (And by "we," I mean me and Greg Berlanti.) I'll have much, much more on this developing story in the coming days, weeks and months. Heck, I may even do an AA spin-off entitled "Ask Ausiello About Emily VanCamp's Brothers & Sisters Gig." I'd certainly read that column. What do you guys think? Or are you too busy hyperventilating?
