November 23, 2006: Scoop and Run Season 13, Episode 9

I have to say there's nothing like a big sweeps event to help digest all the turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and to-die-for corn cakes (in my house, all courtesy of my husband's amazing culinary skills). Hope you ER fans enjoyed a yummy Thanksgiving feast of your own before settling in for a brand new episode. Tonight, in keeping with the spirit of the season, I would like to focus on the theme of thankfulness. First, I am so thankful that Maura Tierney continues to get a chance to shine. Tonight, she was right back in the spotlight as Abby's plans for an idyllic holiday with her new family were derailed. As if getting dragged away for a pointless transport wasn't bad enough, she had to deal with being dropped into a ravine to assist at the sight of a horrific bus accident. The scenes with young Milo and his mother were heart-breaking, but I had a feeling that Abby would go back for her with an assist from her surly transport partner. Together, they saved the day and several lives. (I am also thankful that there are people in the world who do this kind of work everyday. We are lucky to have them.) I am also thankful that Weaver is getting cozy with her producer (as many of you predicted in your posts). It's been a while since Kerry enjoyed any romantic action and it is nice to see her happy and enjoying herself again, though I do sometimes miss the Kerry of old, terrorizing nurses, interns and residents with gusto. It was sweet that Pratt felt comfortable enough to talk to her about the situation with his brother. (I guess he needed her expert opinion on the topic of homosexuality?) Kerry's line about Pratt's "gadar" was cute and later, I got a good laugh when Pratt swooned over the fact that Kerry's lady love is a football fan. In the absence of Archie, a little light comedy was a nice touch. (For those of you missing Dr. Morris--and I know I am--it looks like he will be up to his usual high jinks next week.) It appears that Jane's ( Sara Gilbert) hardcore cynicism caught Crenshaw's eye, so I guess I am also thankful that there really is someone for everyone. On the flip side, I hate to admit this, but I am also happy that Tony got caught in the act. The entire situation with him, Neela and Meg is very unseemly to me. I'm just sorry that Neela's first foray back into the dating pool has to be tainted by his considerable baggage. If they want to make Gates a more appealing character, they better wrap up this whole story quickly, because it bothers me more each week. Finally, I am so thankful for Goran Visnjic in general. Aside from the fact that he is absolutely lovely to look at, I am enjoying him so much as a devoted family man and leader in the ER. When he showed up with Joe and an entire meal in tow for Abby and her fellow Thanksgiving co-workers, I definitely got misty. It was great to see the staff (old and new) interacting in a positive way. The rejuvenation of this series continues to astound me. And before I forget, one more big thanks to all of you bloggers who are reading and sharing your thoughts. Enjoy your holiday weekend! show less

Premise: The riveting medical drama that redefined the genre for the 1990s and into the 21st century. Created by author Michael Crichton and set in a Chicago ER, the series chronicles the lives of its harried staff in staccato, realistic scenes of lives saved and lost. The all-time champ for Emmy nominations among dramas (108),`ER' topped the ratings charts shortly after its premiere, and has remained a top-rated show (and an anchor of NBC's vaunted Thursday Must-See TV lineup) ever since.
