April 29, 2007: You Got Got! Season 3, Episode 16

I hope you will all forgive me if I digress from the usual commentary for one moment to make an important, albeit prurient, observation. Jeremy Piven should definitely lose the shirt more often. Underneath those fitted suits and trendy ties, the guy's sporting some serious bod. Okay, now back to our regularly scheduled, G-rated blogging. I have decided how I am going to make my fortune and I hope you will all support me in my endeavor. I am going to self-publish a book of wisdom from the one and only Johnny Drama. I know it has best-seller potential. From tonight's episode alone, Johnny taught us that in families, if one person hates someone, everyone has to. We also learned that the universe can be extremely vindictive in the face of success. Thinking that he was in on the joke with the Pauly Shore hidden-camera show, Drama's verbal assault on Ultimate Fighting Champion Chuck Liddell was full of bravado and death-defying fearlessness. (Who else but Drama would threaten to rip someone's foot off?) Moments later, he was accosted by a pack of cookie-crazed Girl Scouts and assumed that the prank was complete. While I had a suspicion that we would see Drama's nemesis again before the night was through, the escalating terror of the self-proclaimed "Henry Hill" was a sight to behold. Kevin Dillon is amazingly entertaining as the elder Chase brother. He is one of the reasons I keep coming back week after week since I'm not really feeling the rest of the show right now. I'm not sure if it is Vince and Ari's estrangement or what, but I do feel like something is off in these most recent episodes. OK, so if my book doesn't fly, my next plan is to go into stamp collecting. Who knew how lucrative that field could be? It was fun to get a little glimpse of Ari outside of the office sharing some quality time with Mrs. Ari ( Perrey Reeves) and his visiting frat brother Scott ( Artie Lange). While I did think it was a bit of a stretch that Ari would have gotten so jealous over his friend's good fortune, it is always fun to watch Jeremy Piven react to outlandish situations. The guy just has spot-on comedic timing. Finally, I'm going to give props tonight to Adrian Grenier. Thanks to the actor's canny portrayal, I absolutely believe that this millionaire movie star walks around without a key to his own house and doesn't drive or know how to check voice mail. The character is dumb like a fox and the actor yields guileless charm like a weapon, always getting what he wants by seeming as though he doesn't realize what he is doing. It takes a special kind of talent to play someone so manipulative and still keep them likable and relatable, and Grenier has nailed it. Not to make a too off-color leap here, but just look at his relationship with Amanda. However, it does remain to be seen who is really playing whom. Meanwhile, Eric sits by and quietly stews as he waits for the other shoe to drop. Amanda summed it up nicely in the bathtub with Vince when she noted, "You boys have a strange relationship." Oh, Amanda, you have no idea. You better watch out, because like Drama says, if you mess with one, you mess with all. show less

Premise: A young movie star from Queens lives the good life in Hollywood surrounded by his boyhood pals, who shamelessly milk the actor's fame for all it's worth. Modeled on the starstruck experiences of coexecutive producer Mark Wahlberg, this breezy satire has moments of inspiration, with the best bits usually coming from Vince's half-brother, Johnny Drama, a D-list actor, and Ari, the amoral agent whose savagely witty barbs earned Jeremy Piven a well-deserved Supporting Actor Emmy award.
