Cheers to TCM for paying proper respect to Sydney Pollack by airing an interview with the filmmaker (taped shortly before his recent death) as the premiere of Elvis Mitchell: Under the Influence, ahead of "bigger" names like Bill Murray, Edward Norton and Richard Gere. Looking remarkably robust, the typically humble Pollack told charming stories about everybody from Burt Lancaster (who convinced the stage actor to become a director) to Dustin Hoffman (who convinced him to become an actor again by forcing him to play the agent in Tootsie a role meant for Dabney Coleman!). I only wish the half-hour chat and Pollack's life lasted longer. Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.
