ER Vet McCrane on Directing Miami Medical: I Avoided the Helicopters

Miami Medical

While directing Friday's episode of Miami Medical, former ER star Paul McCrane made sure of one thing.

"There are helicopters in Miami Medical," McCrane says with a laugh, "but fortunately I stayed far away."

Check out photos of the Miami Medical cast

McCrane, of course, played ER's Dr. Robert Romano, who lost his arm when he backed into the tail rotor blade of a chopper. One season later, McCrane's character was killed off when another helicopter crashed in the ambulance bay, crushing him.

Mega Buzz on Chuck, Gossip Girl, Without a Trace, True Blood and More!

Yvonne Strahovski (Chuck), Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) and Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace)

Every week, senior editors Matt Webb Mitovich, Mickey O'Connor and Tim Molloy satisfy your need for TV scoop. Please send all questions to mega_scoop@tvguide.com.

Chuck deserves a whole season, not just 13 episodes. Any chance of more? Darryl
MATT: Actually, yes. NBC entertainment president Ben Silverman says that while the current plan is to deliver 13 midseason episodes, depending on the ratings, "we may extend it out and continue it through the summer," where he thinks it could pair nicely with Friday Night Lights. "We're looking to ... keep [Chuck] incredibly viral and buzz-worthy until it returns, and then hopefully have it on our air for many years to come." That'd be Awesome. And even more so? I chatted up Scott Bakula at TNT's upfronts luncheon, and he's game for more Chuck, if need be.

Any scoop on Gossip Girl's Season 3? — F.R.
MICKEY: Speaking with TVGuide.com at the CW upfronts, Leighton Meester seemed to confirm that Georgina's plan to ... read more

Fall TV: CBS Adds Eight New Series, Makes Big (and Medium!) Changes

Johnny Galecki, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Haysbert

CBS announced eight brand-new series for the 2009-10 TV season, including ones starring Chris O'Donnell, LL Cool J, Julianna Margulies and Alex O'Loughlin, and swooped in and picked up NBC's castoff Medium.

The Eye ordered a full 22-episode season of Medium, slotting it after Ghost Whisperer on Fridays. As CBS entertainment boss Nina Tassler says, "If Ghost Whisperer and Numbers had an offspring, Medium would be it."

CBS also has tinkered with its Monday lineup in unexpected ways. How I Met Your Mother will now ... read more

I like Sawyer and I love Juliet, but I really need this Sawyer/Juliet thing to be over soon on Lost. — Claudia
MATT: I on the other hand have taken a shine to "Suliet," so it is with some glee that I tell you that there will be a bit more idyllic "playing of the house" as well as a little smooching! before the action-packed ramp-up to the May 13 season finale. It kind of makes you wonder to whom Kate might turn since Jack, I am hearing, is going to only become more unlikable.

Please bring Heroes' Daphne back.  She was a super hero, and her complex personality and fantastic look made her one of my favorites. Cordialea
TIM: Brea Grant's speedster may return in some capacity, but you'll have to accept that she is, in the words of imaginary flying partner Greg Grunberg ... read more

24, Heroes, Law & Order: SVU

Senior editors Matt Mitovich, Mickey O'Connor and Tim Molloy answer your questions. Speaking of questions, we invite you to drop us a line at mega_scoop@tvguide.com.

24 is totally back on track, but the one downside is Sean. I don't know whether it's the actor or the writing, but I do know I want that guy gone. Anything coming up that would make me a happy camper? — Mike
MATT: I suppose it would depend on whether Sean (aka he who has since been revealed as Moley McMoleberg) is truly traitorous or a red herring a la Season 6's Nadia. My own moles (none of whom are played by Rhys Coiro, mind you) tell me that Agent Hillinger's fate may be cinched during the game-changing back-to-back episodes airing March 2.

Please tell this Heroes fan that somehow Hiro or Peter will get the power to travel through time again so that they can go back and save Daphne. — Ashley
TIM: Good concept, but Heroes has promised us ... read more

Olivia Wilde (House), Ali Larter (Heroes), Kiefer Sutherland (24

House is my favorite show, but I am getting sick of this season's Thirteen-centered storylines. When will we see more of Wilson, who has been woefully underused? —  Gillian
MATT: Personally, I'm (Olivia) Wilde for Thirteen, partly because her portrayer gives great quotes on the red carpet (and, ahem, is definitely not chilly). But I hear your woe, and can promise that Robert Sean Leonard has meaty stuff coming up later this season, only some of which has to do with Wilson's long-lost brother. Also, for what it's worth (and as hinted at this week), we'll also be spending a bit more time with Peter Jacobson's Taub.

I hear that either Hayden Panettiere or Ali Larter wants to be released from her Heroes contract. Is this true? — Brian
TIM:
One of the key Heroes dies at the end of this volume, so that would be an easy out. But Larter ... read more

Mega Buzz on Grey's, Lost, Fringe, Smallville and More!

Mark Valley (Fringe), Evangeline Lilly (Lost) and T.R. Knight (Grey's Anatomy)

Senior editors Matt Mitovich, Mickey O'Connor and Tim Molloy answer your questions. Drop us a line at mega_scoop@tvguide.com.

Is there any indication that Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes is going to adjust her stories because of all of the recent negative feedback? — Heidi
MATT: I doubt that Rhimes will alter any master plans, especially when it comes to the Izzie/Denny "romance" which, though polarizing, seems destined to serve some greater purpose. Now, speaking of "negative feedback," I've got at least one source telling me that T.R. Knight's apparent disenchantment with Grey's might not necessarily result in him exiting the series early. Wouldn't it be refreshing to see cooler heads prevail?

The John Scott character on Fringe is such a joyful enigma; maybe one of you can convince the producers to bring him back from the dead? — Susan
MICKEY: [Peeking out from behind a giant Chinese fan] You know who else is a joyful enigma, Susan? Me! When I asked my friends o' Fringe about John Scott's possible reanimation ... read more

Eleventh Hour Clocks in with Additional Script Orders

Eleventh Hour stars Rufus Sewell as a biophysicist who investigates unusual scientific happenings.

CBS has greenlit five additional scripts for Jerry Bruckheimer's Eleventh Hour, bringing the drama's freshman run to 18 total episodes.

To date, Eleventh Hour has averaged a decent 12 million viewers in its après-CSI berth. That said, the thinking is that CBS came up shy of a full-season pick-up because ... read more

Fall Shows on the Fence: Save 'Em or Shelve 'Em?

Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) and Rufus Sewell (Eleventh Hour)

This fall TV season has suffered two more casualities — NBC's My Own Worst Enemy and Lipstick Jungle — bringing the total numbers of shows shown the door to an unlucky seven. Interestingly, and perhaps as a true demonstration of yin and yang, nearly same number of shows have also been given the good word that they are keepers for the season.
