A&E Brings Back Dog Days This Summer

Dog the Bounty Hunter courtesy A&E

Duane "Dog" Chapman — the most famous bounty hunter we know — will be back this summer on A&E with fresh episodes, says the AP. As you may recall, Chapman's show, Dog the Bounty Hunter, was abruptly pulled from the 'net last fall following the leak of a taped phone conversation in which Chapman referred to his son's girlfriend, who is African-American, with a racial epithet. An A&E spokesman said the network felt Dog deserved a second chance, and had done work to redeem himself since the incident. Reruns of the series will kick off June 25, and new episodes will begin airing soon after. Bail-jumpers across Hawaii might be quaking in their law-evading flip-flops, but what about you? Dog on Fox: I Will Try Never, Ever to Use N-word Again

Continuing to apologize for his use of the N-word to refer to his son's girlfriend, A&E bounty hunter Dog Chapman appeared on Fox News Channel's Hannity & Colmes Tuesday night. "I have used the word for a long time not to mean what it does to a lot of black people that are offended," he said. "I will try never, ever, ever to use that word again. I did not ever want to be in the hot seat as I am right now." Wait, that's an apology? — Ben Katner read more

Dog the Bounty Hunter's Shocking Call to His Son

A tape of Dog the Bounty Hunter star Duane "Dog" Chapman using the N-word in an angry phone conversation with his son Tucker is making the rounds on the Internet. On the call, Chapman is heard using racist remarks during an argument over Tucker’s girlfriend, Monique Shinnery, who is black. Chapman’s show, in which he and his family chase down criminal fugitives on the Hawaiian Islands, has been one of the most popular on A&E since it began its run in 2004. — Reporting by Stephen Battaglio read more

Series Premiere

Oh, Reaper, my belly so aches from laughter, and it's all your fault. There were a ton of priceless moments in this episode, which I think promise good things for the future of this series. When I first found out about this show, it was easy to fall into a disbelieving mindframe, wondering how any network was going to pull off a show about a guy who finds out his parents sold his soul to the devil before he was born. I wondered what kind of footprint the CW was going to make with this kind of wacky premise, and now I know. A huge, hilarious one.Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison) and his best pal Bert "Sock" Wysocki (Tyler Labine) are lackey salesmen at The Work Bench, a Home Depot-like hardware store where they work under an Office Space-worthy rule-monger manager and are are graced by the presence of Sam's crush Andi (Missy Peregrym) and their pal Ben (Rick Gonzalez). After a bizarre workday in which Sam learns he has (a sad excuse for) telekinesis, plays hero by saving Andi's life and is ... read more

Dog Run: Bounty Hunter Returns Amid Criminal Charges

Duane "Dog" Chapman, Dog the Bounty Hunter

The fourth season of the A&E reality show Dog the Bounty Hunter (kicking off tonight at 9 pm/ET) will document an alleged criminal's attempts to avoid incarceration. The twist: It's the show's star, Duane "Dog" Chapman, who has found himself on the wrong side of the law. Chapman, along with his son Leland and buddy Tim Chapman (no relation), could spend up to four years in a Mexican prison on charges of "deprivation of liberty" stemming from their 2003 capture of convicted serial rapist Andrew Luster in Puerto Vallarta. Bounty Hunter Dog Impounded for Kidnapping

Duane "Dog" Chapman and two Dog the Bounty Hunter costars, including his 29-year-old son Leland, were arrested on Thursday in Hawaii on charges of illegal detention and conspiracy, stemming from their June 2003 capture of Max Factor heir Andrew Luster, who had fled the U.S. for Mexico on three rape charges. Chapman's publicist says her client will be vindicated, telling the Associated Press, "He arrests the bad guys. He is definitely not one of them." Said Chapman himself in the courtroom following his arrest, "You see what the American government is doing to us? They throw us in jail. I'm so upset about this." Chapman et al are being held in Honolulu, where they will face an extradition-to-Mexico hearing. read more

What the heck has happened to ...

Question: What the heck has happened to A&E? Dog the Bounty Hunter is their top show and now there is a reality show called God or the Girl? Please tell me A&E plans on offering us something better in the upcoming summer and winter. Answer: I wish I could, but A&E seems to have gone almost completely to the dark side, with an obsessive devotion to reality-based series, and not even particularly good ones. Still, there is another season of first-rate British spy drama MI-5 in the wings, and the network keeps telling me they'll air it, although there is still no airdate. One positive sign: With The Sopranos joining the schedule in January, there are reports that the network is developing some quality-minded original dramas to complement it. (And a few of the original movies in A&E's pipeline sound promising as well.) But by and large, A&E is content with its downmarket shift in focus. It has brought the network a younger base demographic, and to advertisers, that's all that apparentl ... read more

Can you tell me what A&E is ...

Question: Can you tell me what A&E is turning into? Rollergirls? I just don't get it. I have enough problems trying to understand the programming on Spike. By the way, it would be nice if some of these cable networks would show some older movies. The constant repeats of the few movies they do show is getting old and tiresome, and these networks ought to have enough movies in their film libraries without having to air repeats so often. Also, welcome back. Answer: It's good to be back, even if that means confronting depressing topics like the decline of A&E. The network will crow about the younger demographics it now attracts since it has shifted focus from a broad-based arts-and-entertainment network to a bottom-feeding swill factory that perpetrated one of the worst shows of the decade in Growing Up Gotti (which, thankfully, is history). If it weren't for the fact that MI-5 is still in the wings, waiting to return in summer (last I heard), plus the occasional Biography special or ... read more
