What is up with FX? Dirt is ...

Question: What is up with FX? Dirt is just not that great! It is just another one of FX's "shock-skank" shows. What is so annoying, though, is that you can't even watch any of the network's quality programming without them constantly cramming this new show and its previews down your throat at every commercial break. And FX is canceling other programs to show the same stupid episode over and over. I'm sick of Dirt and don't even watch FX anymore. Is this network really that desperate? Answer: Seems to me that FX always builds its schedule and its promotional muscle around whatever original programming happens to be airing at the time. Nothing new in that. It might not be so annoying if the promos were for something wonderful, like The Shield or Rescue Me, but for the moment, FX is in the unfortunate position of having an utter piece of junk as its centerpiece, which will be the sad case until the Eddie Izzard-Minnie Driver vehicle The Riches shows up mid-March. It looks like The Shield ... read more

This may be a weird question, ...

Question: This may be a weird question, but have you ever seen a worse show better promoted than Dirt? I was totally drawn in by its advertising campaign. The song FX chose was so haunting and sexy, with the picture of Courteney Cox in that red dress and showing her deep, blue eyes. It was a very noticeable ad. You couldn't help but watch. So of course, I tuned in to the show, and it was absolute garbage. It was poorly written, poorly acted and shocking only for the sake of being shocking. So were the commercials done by the staff of the TV show or a separate director? And I almost wonder if it was a conscious choice not to use any clips of the show in its advertising. By the way, when does the media start harping on the Friends curse? Matt LeBlanc (Joey) and Lisa Kudrow (The Comeback) have already bitten the dust. And Courteney Cox (Dirt) and Matthew Perry (Studio 60) may not be far behind. Answer: Oh, let's not go into "curse" mode just yet. It's inevitable that after hitting such a ... read more

Question: Is Jennifer Aniston really in the Dirt finale?

Answer: Yes, and, as I spilled exclusively in the Ausiello Report, she's swapping spit with her good pal Courteney Cox!

Casting News: Aniston and Cox, Friends with Benefits?

• As exclusively spilled in a fresh Ausiello Report, Jennifer Aniston will be playing a lesbian when she guest-stars on gal pal Courteney Cox's Dirt. Mike has more on that, as well as some Heroes and 'Til Death (yes, 'Til Death) casting scoop.• Brooke Shields draws the interest of Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer when she drops by Two and a Half Men on Feb. 5. read more

Exclusive: Aniston-Cox Smooch Exposed!

Call them Friends with benefits. You already know that when Jennifer Aniston guests on the March 27 season finale of Courteney Cox's FX drama Dirt, she'll be playing her bosom buddy's archenemy, a rival tabloid editor. But what I've learned — muahaha, exclusively! — is that Aniston's character is a lesbian. What's more, she won't just mouth off to Cox's tightly wound counterpart, she's going to share a liplock with her. An FX rep declined to comment, but Joey Tribbiani had this to say: "Yeah, baby!" read more

Casting About: Jennifer Aniston Wallows in Dirt

It's official: This is what Friends are for. Jennifer Aniston will guest on the March 27 season finale of Courteney Cox's FX series Dirt, Variety reports. The actress formerly known as Rachel Green will play a rival of Cox's tabloid editor.... Who better than Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, to guest on a show called In Case of Emergency? Randolph Mantooth, you say? OK, but he just wasn't right for the part of David Arquette's mother. Instead, Jane Seymour has been tapped to appear in three episodes. Actually, come to think of it, Jane's not right for that part, either. I'm seeing Shirley Jones. read more

If FX's new drama Dirt is as ...

Question: If FX's new drama Dirt is as lousy as most reviews say it is, is there a chance FX will pull it and bring The Shield back earlier? That would be awesome (no disrespect to Courteney Cox). Answer: Don't get your hopes up. No matter how bad Dirt is (and it's dreadful), FX is committed to it at least for this season. Cable networks rarely pull shows from the schedule in midstream unless there's some catastrophe, and Dirt's early numbers were far from disastrous. (FX's promotional muscle and track record go a long way toward a successful launch.) At the moment, The Shield is still expected back this spring, and moving up its return for any reason would probably only serve to muck up the network's marketing plans ... read more

Courteney Nixes One Friends Reunion, Eyes Another

Speaking to the press at the Television Critics Association conference, Courteney Cox waxed skeptical on the latest outlook for a Friends reunion special, saying, "It's too hard to get everyone together.... I just can't see it happening." Cox, however, is bullish on sharing the small screen again with at least Jennifer Aniston, who has expressed her love for Cox's new FX series, Dirt, and is anxious to guest on it. "I would love to," Aniston told Extra earlier this week. "Just to be able to work with my girl again!" Perhaps the only holdup is deciding who Jen would play, if not her tabloids-weary self. But, Cox promises, "We'll think of something good if it happens." read more

Is Sitcom Life But a Scream for David Arquette?

David Arquette, In Case of Emergency

On ABC's recently premiered In Case of Emergency (Wednesdays at 9:30 pm/ET), David Arquette stars as Jason, a corporate whiz freshly felled by scandal, and now leaning on a group of similarly shamed high-school classmates (played by Greg Germann, Jonathan Silverman and Kelly Hu). TVGuide.com spoke with Arquette about his and wife/Dirt-headliner Courteney Cox's new bids at small-screen success. TVGuide.com: For a guy who was about to kill himself, In Cas read more
