Dexter Episode Recap: "Easy as Pie" Season 3, Episode 7

Ooh child, there's some smooching going on in this episode and it's getting kinda hot in here. Miguel starts a short list for his and Dexter's side project. Ellen and Maria bond over some scotch. Camilla loses her battle with cancer, but in a good way. And Dexter has a nightmare, or is it a nightmare? "Body parts out in the open." Never a good way to wake up.

Miguel saves Ramon's derriere again by working out a deal not to have him thrown in the slammer for his latest bad judgment. Ramon begrudgingly puts his badge down. Is Miguel perverting law for his own benefit, as Ellen accuses him? He sure is getting out of hand. Now he wants Dexter to kill Cheung and Ellen Wolf. Who's next?

Ellen Wolf is bad to the bone, but only as far as doing her job well is concerned.  She has it out for Miguel. But he has it out for her just as bad. "Keep an open mind about her," Miguel tries to convince Dexter that he should take care of Ellen.

Miguel blows up at Dexter for saying "no" to him about killing Ellen.  Dexter thinks he's lost his best friend. We eventually see that Ellen has a conscience and Miguel comes around and all is well with the world

Laguerta's been looking very good lately. She's got a glow about her. I like that she has a friend in Ellen, even if Ellen is a bit of a wolf. (What a pun!)

Deb tells Anton that he needs to get out of town. (Isn't it amazing how she has grown as an actress in three seasons? None of us could stand her in the first season and now I love every scene she's in.) Debra asks Dex, "Ever compromise an investigation for personal reasons?" He says no, but I think, 'Oh yeah? How about the tooth/crown thing?' How quickly they forget.

Wendell's mother screams at Debra, "You led that animal here, here, to my only baby," and I can't help thinking that the animal that killed Wendell is holding his mother in his arms.

Debra ends up rocking the investigation again when she spends the night searching for a new lead. It's pretty brilliant how she finds out how the tree trimmers figure into the Skinner murders. Quinn looks a little nervous. Angel asks her how much caffeine she's had and she replies, "a metric f*ck-ton". I loved how she walked across the floor with her knees bent. Cracked me up.

Syl and Miguel are having problems and she's taking relationship advice form Rita, which is a hoot considering Rita's taste in men isn't all that.  Rita put her foot in her mouth trying to comfort Syl, perpetuating the lie that Dexter was doing drugs last season, which he wasn't. He was just doing Lila.

Anton thanks Deb for telling him that he was about to be bait for the Skinner. "I'll be your bait." Then a lot of kissing. It's about time.

Fattista and VaGianna. Hilarious. Just friends. Their relationship goes from hooker/john to just friends to kissing cops. That was fast.  But I like it!

Yuki tells Debra she's screwed up the IA investigation. But why didn't she just tell Debra up front what she knows about Quinn?  Quinn may be the Skinner, but I don't see it yet.

Once Miguel apologizes to Dexter for biting his head off, Dex asks Miguel to be his best man. The look on Miguel's face says he is quite happy to do that for his buddy.

When did this show get so sad? I cried through almost every scene with the dying Camilla. Margo Martindale, who plays Camilla, should get a nomination, at the very least, for her skill this season. She was absolutely spellbinding. Camilla asks Dexter to help her out of her misery. She confides that she knows about Brian and he feels the urge to confide that he killed his brother. She validates him. He gets to show mercy to someone who really mattered to him. "A friend does the hard thing." Dexter feeds Camilla her last bites of key-lime pie. "You finally brought me the perfect pie." And so we say goodbye to Camilla.

Best lines:
• "I don't do sick people."
• "Should I invite Quinn? He's so tan."
• "F**king Albert Cheung."
• "Do I see sheets of plastic in your future?"
• "Hand holding. So simple, so intimate, so uncomfortable."
• "We're not gonna man-hug, are we?"
