This show is so ridiculously fantastic, I don't even know where to start. So much happens in one episode, I need a week off in between just to process it all. The best line of the show: "How did death turn into a couples weekend?"
Last week we met the ITK and knew he had something up his sleeve. This week we get to know the ITK, and he's got mad tricks!
Let's get the minor stuff out of the way, and then on to the big stuff.
I was totally psyched to see Angel have a bigger story line tonight. All the actors here are fantastic, but I really like his character. Angel gained my respect even more when he told the story of his father telling him to "Be an honest man." Angel has kept his promise to his dad all his life. Doakes was being a big jerk; I don't understand why he was able to tell LaGuerta what was wrong, but not Angel. He forced Angel into a very difficult position. After the gruesome story came out about the Haitian Military death squads, I understood the actions he took; but to leave Angel in the cold was very unfair. He really needs to redeem himself, because so far he's mostly been mean to everyone.
I hate Paul. There, I've said it. And I hope he has been added to Dexter's list of "people to kill." I would do it myself if I could find that much Saran Wrap. I hope they don't have him really hurt Rita in order to get Dexter's dander up. There's already plenty of reason to end it for him. Kill, Dexter, kill!
Look what this show has done to me. From squeamish girl in the back row of the theater, to death rallier....
OK, how in the world did the ITK know about Joseph Driscoll, and not even Dexter knew? Something fishy this way comes. We know how he killed him in order to lure Dexter et al together for a fun-filled, get-to-know-you weekend. But it's inconceivable how he knew this guy existed. Could he have gotten his hands on Dexter's old medical records since he works in the field? I don't know, but I knew he had something to do with it when he was talking with Deb in bed.
When he arrives at Joe's house where Rita and Dexter are packing up, and he automatically hugs him and says, "I've waited a long time to meet you," honest to God, chills ran down my spine.
The big trauma of the evening is that Dexter finds out something about Harry that even Deb refuses to admit. The scar to which the kids refer in the first scene in the bathroom came from an accident wherein Dexter fell on an iron gate post. He was rushed to the hospital, having lost a lot of blood. He had AB negative, a rare blood type. Very few people have this type, but his natural father might. Harry consents to asking Dexter's bio-dad (as Deb refers to him) for it. In the past, and as far as Dexter knew, Harry always told him the truth. It was part of the code of Harry. Then the ITK suggests that perhaps Harry didn't tell him the truth, and a very difficult truth arises. When Dexter says, "I had a father, someone other than Harry, who called me 'son,'" we got to see a very sensitive, vulnerable side of him that was heartbreaking on so many levels.
More music in this episode makes me very happy - CCR with "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," and later at the house, the ITK plays a little Foghat ("Slow Ride") and dancing ensues. Even serial killers dance!
Final question: Since when does Deb smoke?
