April 15, 2007: Liaisons Season 3, Episode 18

Last week, I complained about ABC revealing too much during their promos and coming attractions. This week, I must do the opposite. Thank you, ABC, for not revealing too much about the plot of this episode in last week's previews. We were simply teased without seeing any key plot developments. For all we knew, Edie and Carlos were going to have amazing sex together because of those Postman Always Rings Twice-like scenes they showed, not the "amazingly bad" sex they had their first two attempts. I loved Edie bitching at Carlos about referring to her as being "bad in bed." Edie: "I've had more thrills leaning up against the dryer." I was pleased to see the two of them finally have success at the very end. I kind of wish they played Nicollette Sheridan's other half's song "Time, Love and Tenderness" when they showed them lying in bed together after the good sex. Sometimes that's all it takes - time, love and tenderness - rather than, "Wham bam, thank you, ma'am." I found it quite ironic that Carlos was initially having bad sex with Edie while Gabrielle, after abstaining from Victor, finally gave it to him good in the limo. My favorite lines were between Edie and Gaby. Gaby: "We had sex yesterday in his limo." Edie: "Ooh, I love limo sex! Towncar or stretch?" Gaby: "Oh, stretch, of course. I'm not a complete slut." I knew Gaby would eventually come around and use Victor's money and political power as an aphrodisiac. Victor learned the hard way that Gaby needs to be worshipped and won't be ignored. Now he's in love with her. It was about time Mike planted one on Susan (OK, ABC did reveal a little last week when they featured the Mike/Susan kiss in the previews, but at least we didn't know the context). Earlier, I went from having an "Oh, please - not again" moment when Susan drove herself and Ian into the water to avoid hitting a deer, to laughing out loud when Mike showed up to save the day and took his shirt off before diving in to save them. Nothing like making Ian feel even more inferior. Not only does Ian not know how to swim (wimp), but Mike has a much better body. Poor Ian. Of course he wants to move to London with Susan. Another line I laughed at was from Susan, after Ian failed to perform in bed: "Don't worry. It happens to everybody. Maybe it would help to talk about it. Want some cheese?" Speaking of cheese, Jason Gedrick is a welcome addition to this show as Rick, the suddenly hired new manager at Scavo's Pizzeria. Sure, Rick's an ex-drug addict, but he can make a kickass calzone! I liked how Tom didn't want Rick hired, without even seeing him. Wait until he takes one look at him - he'll be even more of a Crabby Spice. I bet Andrew develops a crush on Rick. But in the meantime, Andrew's happy enough "doing the beer delivery guy." I love how they give Shawn Pyfrom at least one good zinger per episode. Lynette's reaction to hearing Andrew say that was priceless, as was Mrs. McCluskey's reply when Tom asked her to please control his kids: "Can I beat them?" I always enjoy it when they leave us with a shocker, so the best part of the episode was the very end. I just knew that something strange was going to be revealed about Mrs. McCluskey, since they don't normally show her alone in her house talking to the spirit of her dead husband Gilbert. So there he was - at least his dead body - inside her freezer. Oh, the questions! Can we assume she killed him? Or maybe she loved him so much she wanted him close by, preserved to look like he used to look? Desperate Housewives, indeed! Color me intrigued. show less

Premise: Following her suicide, Mary Alice Young keeps tabs on friends and family she left behind on bucolic suburban Wisteria Lane. But this being a prime-time soap (if a tongue-in-cheek one), they all harbor a sordid secret or two. Created by writer-producer Marc Cherry (a 'Golden Girls' alum), 'Housewives' was an instant hit and a frequent contender on Emmy night .
