TVGuide.com's In Focus: The Joys of Being Ian Somerhalder

Ian Somerhalder

On the CW's breakout hit The Vampire Diaries, Ian Somerhalder plays a nearly 170-year-old man who — perhaps unwittingly — became a vampire as a teen. Though the actor's luck has been indisputably better than that of his character, Damon Salvatore, both have had the same response to the twists in their lives: outright glee.

For Damon, that giddiness manifests itself in the smirky, wanton torment of the people who surround him. In Somerhalder, fortunately, it takes a more gracious form.

"Right now, where I am, doing what I'm doing, it's exactly where I want to be," he says.

Life Unexpected's Kerr Smith Talks about New Series and Days on the Creek

Kerr Smith

Fans of old-school WB programming can rejoice with the new CW drama Life Unexpected. As its star Kerr Smith told TVGuide.com, the "stylistic view" and "heavily character-driven" story lines are reminiscent of the programs that once defined the old network. Unexpected is exactly how to describe the turn of events when Lux (Britt Robertson), who was given up for adoption 15 years earlier, finds her biological parents Cate (Shiri Appleby), a famous radio disc jockey, and Nate "Baze" Bazile (Kristoffer Polaha), a one-time jock turned aging frat boy. Smith, who plays Ryan, Cate's lovable co-host and boyfriend, chatted about the show's love triangle, and how he knew his first series Dawson's Creek would be a hit.
