Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 Season 15, Episode 8

Dancing with the Stars boots another couple. Did Karina's fall come back to bite her and Apolo? Did Kirstie overcome her low score? Plus: See who's on whose freestyle team!

Who's it going to be, people? I am worried about Apolo after last night and I'm dreading the extra/confessional footage we're going to see because I can't take any more tears from Karina. Let's face it, I'll just mute it. This is one instance where I hope sympathy votes do work because they do not deserve to go before the finals.

First three safe couples:
Shawn and Derek
Kelly and Val
Sabrina and Louis

Bristol and Mark are in jeopardy.

The best part of the Monday behind-the-scenes footage? Mark screaming, "That's my girl!" to Shawn after her routine and then telling her "so proud of you" while enveloping her in a bear hug. Let's hope Bristol doesn't have 20/20 hearing, as my pre-calc teacher would say.

The best part of the results so far? Brooke getting up in Kelly's and Val's faces to spew a recap of their performance and critiques. And then... silence. "How do we feel about that?" Val says with perfect mock derision. "You're safe," Brooke sputters. Oh, Brooke. Still can't run with a joke.

After Carson returns with a not-so-funny package (could've gone with more "bronzing Gilles' abs" footage, editors) and a Macy's Stars of Dance performance featuring Christina Grimmie, Apolo reveals that Karina's fall last night was caused by an impromptu kick she added. Ugh, why would you do that with a style of dance you're completely uncomfortable with? At least she can laugh about it now? Meanwhile, in honor of guilty pleasures week next week, we learn Gilles' guilty pleasure song is "I Will Always Love You" because apparently listening to Whitney is not manly and Emmitt's is "Copacabana" — and all I can think of is this.

Next two safe couples:
Gilles and Peta
Emmitt and Cheryl

Apolo and Karina are in jeopardy.

Next safe couple:
Melissa and Tony

Kirstie and Maks are in jeopardy. OK, if Apolo and Karina go out of these three, we can all write off this season as one huge fail.

After Donny Osmond and Susan Boyle perform, it's time for another live pick for next week: Team Freestyles. The captains are the two couples with the highest cumulative scores: Shawn and Derek, and Gilles and Peta. Gilles wins the toss.

Team Gilles (Song: "Gangnam Style")
Kelly and Val
Kirstie and Maks
Emmitt and Cheryl

Team Shawn (Song: "Call Me Maybe")
Sabrina and Louis
Melissa and Tony
Apolo and Karina

Bristol and Mark don't get picked, just as she predicted, but if they're not eliminated, they'll replace the team who is. These teams are fine as is, so please peace out, Bristol. Although, if you were actually competitive as you say you are, Gilles, you would not have picked Kirstie and Maks over Emmitt and Cheryl, let alone allow the other team to be compromised of two Olympic gold medalists, a former cheerleader and a dancer. Way to make it personal. Team Chmerkovskiy, er, Gilles, got the better song, but we all know Team Derek owns the team dances, so, as my Friend Joey Tribbiani says, it's a moo point.

Next safe couple:
Apolo and Karina

That means Bristol and Mark, and Kirstie and Maks are the bottom two. About damn time! And the couple going home is... Bristol and Mark.

"Well, we did it. We make it to Week 4. I had an awesome time, I had the best partner and I wish everyone the best of luck," she says.

Dreams come true, guys! I think I braced myself so much for another final three run from her that is almost a shocking elimination for me. Bristol was a better dancer this time around, but she's simply outmatched. So is Kirstie, but at least she exhibits effort and joy. And for all we complain about the judges inflating Bristol's scores, maybe they actually resulted in this elimination: She got good scores last night, so her fans got complacent? Well played, judges, well played. Or maybe America finally woke up?

Remember, next week, there will be two performance shows on both Monday and Tuesday, one hour each.

What do you think? Did Bristol deserve the boot? Do you like the freestyle teams? Is listening to Whitney Houston not manly? Do you want to bronze Gilles' abs? Who's your current to pick to win?
