Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, March 29, 2011 Season 12, Episode 3

After two weeks of performances on Dancing with the Stars, it's time to eliminate the first couple of Season 12. Did Wendy or Mike overcome their low scores? Or was there a surprise?

Judging by the lack of "shocking boot" tweets from Tom, unlike in the past two seasons, I'm guessing this first elimination won't be a shocker. What is shocking: Brooke's dress. Is she encased in fancy bubble wrap? Yeesh.

After a pro number featuring the new Dancing troupe and a recap of the three athletes' performances, it's time to get down to business.

First two safe couples:
Hines and Kym
Chris and Cheryl

Sugar Ray and Anna will "learn their fate later." Is this the new "in jeopardy"? Such drastic changes in Season 12!

Next, Robin Roberts' favorite interview subject, Chris Brown, performs "Yeah 3x" — or as Brooke calls it, his "latest smash single." Ha! No pun intended. He ends it by clasping his hands in a prayer... thanking the ABC TPTB for not disinviting him?

Apparently, we're grouping everyone by profession tonight, so next up are the actors.

Next three safe couples:
Ralph and Karina
Kirstie and Maks
Chelsea and Mark

Time to meet the Dancing troupe, who will perform on each results show. Are they supposed to save the pros some much-needed energy? Because I prefer the pros we all know and love, not to mention the pros who Dancing never casts anymore (ahem, Jonathan). The sextet includes Ted, a Maks pupil, who's excited to be dancing with his sis, self-described flirt Nicole. Others: "sensuous blonde" Peta, Irishman Tristan, the funky Kiki and tiny powerhouse Oksana, who's a blonde ringer for Danielle Fishel. (Side note: Who else misses Boy Meets World?)

Aw, they can't categorize the last two men!

Next safe couple:
Romeo and Chelsie

Mike and Lacey will learn their fate later.

Following a fluff piece on partnership chemistry (everyone has it, Wendy burps, Chelsea and Mark are self-proclaimed "obnoxious," Cheryl wears the "flair Latin pants" in the relationship), Chris Brown is back with a "reinterpretation" of "Forever." And by "reinterpretation," we mean an homage to Tron.

The last three ladies take their spots under the Red Light of Doom.

Next two safe couples:
Kendra and Louis
Petra and Dmitry

Wendy and Tony (or "Sparkletooth," per Tom) join Sugar Ray and Anna, and Mike and Lacey on the fate-waiting sidelines.

Next safe couple:
Wendy and Tony

Sugar Ray and Anna, and Mike and Lacey are not necessarily the bottom two.

And the first couple leaving the ballroom is ... Mike and Lacey.

Unsurprising. Least-known guy and lowest scores is the worst combo. Mike thanks the Dancing crew and cast, his listeners, and says Lacey's equally as and more beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. Tom points out that he joins Jeffrey Ross, the Hoff and Kenny Mayne as first boots. "It puts me on the Mount Rushmore of terrible dancers," Mike quips.

Next week is storytelling week with stars' personal stories.

What do you think? Did Mike deserve to go? What do you think of the Dancing troupe? Is Kym obsessed with Hines' butt? Do you find Chelsea and Mark obnoxious? Is Tony "Sparkletooth"? Who is your early pick to win?
