Dancing with the Stars Episode Recap: Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011 Season 13, Episode 17

Dancing with the Stars trims its cast down to five couples. Did Nancy fall victim to her low score? Or did Halloween Week doom another pair? Plus: Justin Bieber and Boyz II Men perform!

I think this is a record, guys. We've gone through a quarter of the show without even seeing the pairs yet. Instead, we get our eardrums shattered by Justin Bieber. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss his old haircut. At least it was different. Gelled spikes are so generic and so out of style. I blame Selena.

Carson, meanwhile, is still around, as he should be, with a "man on the street" piece that — yes! — includes a one-on-one with Miss Coco Arquette herself. So what if her answers consist of "uh huh" when she's that adorable? And Courteney's beaming with pride? "Back to you, Tom and... Brooke," Carson says. We forget too sometimes, dude. Or at least we want to.

Following an encore by Team Paso Doble, we finally get started and Tom rewards our patience by announcing that they will reveal the actual bottom two. Like right now.

First couple in bottom two:
Nancy and Tristan

First safe couple:
Rob and Cheryl

Next come two performances that are memorable for very different reasons — shirtless Derek and a 17-year-old girl, Victoria-Rose, who re-learned how to dance after having surgery to remove a brain tumor. Are extra performances the new filler packages? If so, I approve. I'd much rather see people dance than the cast harangue about how hard this is. Again.

Next two safe couples:
Ricki and Derek
J.R. and Karina

After The Biebs performs his Christmas single with Boyz II Men as basically his backup singers (there are so many things wrong with that sentence), the last two pairs hit the stage. But not before we get a super long awkward silence between Hope and Maks in the confessional from last night. Between this and yesterday's irksome rehearsal footage, the editors are pure evil, and I sort of love it. Payback for last week?

Next safe couple:
Hope and Maks

Second couple in the bottom two:
David and Kym

Oh, David. He's been in the real bottom two both times they've decided to reveal it this season. He cannot be eliminated the same night we hear Coco speak... but he is. Is that why we got that interview? One last hurrah?

Cue the boos.

"This whole thing has been incredible," he says. "But there must be a mistake because this is my show!" Oh, no you didn't! "I'm just kidding!" He says he's achieved everything he set out to do: entertain, face his fears and learn how to dance.

I'm kind of bummed about this one. I would've dumped either Nancy, for the least technique, or Hope, just to put her and Maks out of their misery. David's been doing well and he's a hoot. But having the second-lowest individual score and being on the losing team dance didn't help with Nancy's following probably in full force after her bad showing. Poor Coco must be heartbroken. It doesn't seem like she and Courteney are in the house, which is probably a good thing.

What did you think? Did the right person go home? Will you miss Coco as much as I will? Is Dancing with the Stars David's show? Did you reach for the Kleenex during Victoria-Rose's performance? Will the show continue to give Maks a terrible edit? Do you miss the old Biebs 'do too?
